Frost, Hibberd, Wagner....let's not start talking off-season in rd 2 coz we have a few players down.

I am waiting for Frost's toe to just be cut off... he is always injured.

Hibberd and Wagner are not tall defenders either.

Frost and Wagner back on track with Hibbard not far off. With those three again in contention for a spot we'll see changes and more improvement.

I think Frost's run and Hibbard's boot are ideal for line breaking offence from our backline, which seems a cornerstone of our new Gameplan...

if our opposition are relying on us being too short by loading up on their tall forwards we should kill them on the rebound.

The real concern is that we've gone from having a solid backline, to scrapping the bottom of the barrel with a few injuries now.

Top priority this off season is getting a tall defender.

Have faith in Frost.

We certainly won't have everything our own way in the middle like we did after Q1 last week. Kreuzer is firing on all cylinders and Cripps is the best clearance player in the league, coming off a limited pre-season, he will be better for the run. Tyson is a valuable inclusion rotating through the guts, I would think Lewis and Jones will assist our undermanned backline with ANB pushing into the midfield and Kent playing his high half-forward role. The Spencer experiment intrigues me, and with Max potentially not 100%, this week seems as good as any to try it.

you do not have to be tall to play tall. Both are capable of playing and competing with taller opponents.

I think we've got a pretty good list now and I'll trust the FD over Demonland posters to select the ones who have the talent for a spot in the side. If you think the Demonland posters have a better grasp of the list that Goodwin and the rest of the selectors, then you are delusional.

This is not Neeld and his band of merry men, who were selected themselves from lower leagues, we now have a team of professional coaches and I reckon they know what they're doing.

What are you talking about? Neeld came as an assistant coach from Collingwood, Neil Craig was a former Adelaide coach, Jade Rawlings was an assistant from Richmond and the list goes on.

If you and Saty don't like posters raising questions about the skill levels of players, feel free to to exclude yourselves in the discussion. It's a forum based on opinions afterall.

Good point L36. And I think we'll miss Joel Smith for that very reason.

I think Kent is a week off judging by media comments. We'll see.

Do we tag Cripps? and if so, who goes to him?

He killed us last year so he should be given plenty of attention. Not sure about a direct tag but probably a team approach at stoppages to negate him charging through, hit-outs to advantage also help. Oliver and Cripps going head to head is mouthwatering.

Sportsbet have a market on disposals

oliver 30 or more $3

oliver 35 or more disposals $8.50

35 or more is tempting can he back up last weeks performance

I was referring to the coaches from lower leagues that Neeld appointed after he was here. If you want to can any player that's on the list then go ahead, I've done that myself but it seems that some on here feel they have a greater knowledge of the list and the players than the coaches we employ to do the job.

I'm not sure what your background is, but you seem to have a high value of your opinion, so I can only assume that you have been a fairly senior coach somewhere or a talent selector for a club or perhaps a former top player. If the club continue to play Oscar then I reckon they have a reason for that, they did the same with Frawley and he turned out ok.

I don't agree with Saty's constant defence of players and I've had several arguments with him, there are players that have played really bad days and he won't accept that, I do.

Worried that Carlton's talls will destroy us, but if they aren't clunking their marks we should be able to outrun them comfortably

What?

It's Cripps, Gibbs and Murphy that we should worry about if anything.

Just the fact that (including McKay) they have 4 or 5 genuine talls in their forward line, while all we have is Oscar and Tommy to defend them

None of them can mark the ball. If need be drop Watts back there. We'll have just to dominate in the midfield like we did after quarter time last week.

Exactly. I'm the opposite of worried if they select all those talls. Nobody would ever have been worried if we'd picked a tall forward line of Watts, Fitzy and Paul Johnson (not sure they were all on the list at the same time but you get my drift).

I reckon the danger of them playing tall is way overstated. Hunt and co are going to have an absolute field day.

I think McKay has talent and would have been happy if he came to us... but in his first game seems people (not just yourself) are saying he is going to be clunking them like a 150/200 game veteran. He will be doing extremely well to finish with any more 2 contested marks for the game

Particularly if it's wet at all. They might get us a couple of times for height, but I think Goody would see their selection of 4 talls as a real opportunity to show the strengths of our zone defence, our run from defence and use our 9-man wave from half back.

Casboult McKay Weitering..

my personal favourite horrible forward line from the Dees was when Garland and Rivers were our 2 key forwards

we will probably break even at clearances - (Oliver and Cripps will run into each other and the G will shake. Viney will give pretty boy Murphy some attention)

but once we start moving the ball from our back line and spreading the game, we will smash them on the outside (cannot believe I am writing this about the Dees)

aside from 4-5 players they are a rabble

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
