Since when do they play the best 22 in a pre-season game?

This doesn't mean he's not in the best 22 players for the club, it means he hasn't been working hard enough or meeting some other KPI in the pre-season to warrant selection.

It's frustrating but not the end of the world, he can still come out and have a great season.

I love that on the 40th article on Watts this week on the AFL site, there's a picture of Goody holding a bag while Jack jumps to take a mark. Shows that he hasn't just been left out with a cold shoulder. I'm sure there's a reason, which I suspect is very minor, as to why he's not playing and I like that the coach (not an assistant) is right there with him. I'm sure some coaches would pass the information down the line and watch from a far.

Report Card - Pre Season - Jack Watts

Jack has been a naughty boy.

We all know Jack is very talented and we all expect a lot from him, he is not like the other boys that don't have Jack's abilities and talent.

Jack can run fast in fact faster than almost everyone else at the club - but he doesn't.

Jack jump and mark the ball - but doesn't.

Jack can read the play - but has lapses.

Jack is the best kick at the club - but he has lapses.

Jack can compete for the ball - but doesn't

Jack should be straight A+ but seems happy with B-

We expect Jack to get A's in all areas, he can be a bad influence on the other boys who may tend to think that they can also take it easy.

Until Jack lifts his intensity and applies similar effort to the other boys we will hold him back from playing with the others. This hurts us more than young Jack but ultimately it will be of benefit to us all.

Yours sincerely,

SG

We have included a copy Jack Vineys report card as a reference.

Report Card - Pre Season - Jack Viney

Jack has been a wonderful..

We all know Jack is determined and has some skills but he is not like the other boys and always manages to get more from himself than any of us ever expected.

Jack can tackle - better that anyone.

Jack can bump - better than anyone.

Jack is determined - more than anyone.

Jack can compete for the ball - better than anyone.

Jack always makes 2nd and 3rd efforts.

Jack should be a B- but he is not happy unless he is A+

We expected Jack to get B in all areas, he is a wonderful influence on the other boys who fear his reaction if they do not give 100%. Jack Viney A+

Jack is now co-captain of the oldest football club in the world and is a credit to his family.

Do you believe Jack - or perhaps he is lying? Maybe he always lies to you about being cool about not being selected and facing yet more public scrutiny? How do i establish the veracity of jack's reply?

Oh you are amusing sweetheart, as far as I can tell and this is after speaking to players and coaches, the whole playing list understands how Goody operates now.

Of course Jack will be [censored] that he isn't picked again, and needs to be, otherwise it's going to be a long year down the Sth East.

But from his attitude, training effort,  voice, body language, talking to me after etc  today, all says, in my humble opinion that he is taking it on board

I joked with him that perhaps he shoukd consider a career in jounalism after he finishes playing as he has lots of experience on how to get a story published and could take revenge on some       he wasn't sold on the idea

What a dork.  If the Club had to make decisions based on supporters threatening to sign up or not or resign unless they take a particular course of action we would be a mob of clowns.  I'm still upset Stan Alves was dumped in 1976 and that they didn't try harder to keep Scott Thompson but I'm not going to pull my membership over it.

Next you'll be demanding that Melksham gets played as a half forward or you won't renew your membership.

This is a joke, firstly a player of Jack's experience not doing what is required and secondly the club on the way we have played this out through the media.  Had hopes for the season but the last 3 days has shown we are still that unprofessional club that we have been for the last 10 years.  We will finish bottom 6 in 2017, jack Watts will be traded at years end with Jesse Hogan gone end of 2018 season.

Over it, don't really care Jack isn't playing, the fact it has got to this is an absolute let down.

Jack's always pretty easy going when anyone speaks to him. I don't think he's going to show too much emotion or give much away.

I think the real question is, if this fault was purely a blind spot for him with Goodwin's new methods or the club feels he has dropped a notch by taking it too easy. Either way, he has the feedback and has 4 weeks to rectify it.

The MFC is finally being run professionally.

I know, its a shock to the system.

I'd also like to know, why people are aggrieved? Im not sure that it has been handled incorrectly, nor that setting (and maintaining) standards is actually a problem?

Great to see that we have almost all now moved on from bagging the media for a beat-up.

Most of us are now siding with the club and Goody - "good pre-season tactic to get him to work harder, lazy trainer, since when do we pick best 22 pre-season (that person seems to have forgotten last year) etc".

A few of us are siding with Wattsy and the club stupidity - as evidenced by ridiculous justification comment from Josh Mahoney or the fact he was top five B&F last year or that his replacements lack his vision and in a side hellbent on attacking, Jack fits in now more than ever.

And now we have Saty saying effectively that Jack understands it - which is either complete nonsense (if you believe the club's poor trainer logic, because anyone who has been to training as regularly as Saty has been, knows that the cleanest worker on the track along with Nat Jones is Jack Watts), or completely likely (if you subscribe to the view that he is under a club-imposed ban that nether he, nor the club, wants to declare) .

Think laterally gents. Is he a tad slow like Lynden Dunn (and therefore needing pushing gently aside like last year)? Does he not quite fit in with the group (like Mark Jackson)? Is he a poor trainer (only a dill would even suggest that, but some of you are falling for it)? No, he is Mr Marketable and the life of the club.

So why would Goody and the club be making a statement to him and then be unable to explain it via the club website? Think legal.

Far from professional, might be driving training standards but to have this play out in the media over the last 3 days shows how far from being away we are.

Far from unprofessional methinks - not addressing it is about not giving it air - why does it need to be quashed, or validated for it to be deemed dealt with in a professional manner. Unprofessional would be the EFC... Media is there to create stories and to dramatise - and as members/spectators/people with no direct involvement with staff members or athletes at the club - its meaningless and fruitless to fret about it - by all means care for Jack, care for professionalism and don't believe the hype that 'stories' in the media actually matter in how the club handle things from a governance perspective.

Utter bull from you most teams don't play their best team until 3nd pre season game,  the first two games are for trying new things, just because the club has not explain watts non selection,  does not mean it's not professional.
