We may as well be talking about a would-be coach at the MFC.

The only thing that matters is the bloke who got the job.

Yep.

And right now I reckon he's doing a pretty terrible job.

At least Mark Neeld had a honeymoon - Trump's been terrible since day 1.

And now his national security adviser has resigned.

I honestly believe we'll be evaluating the performance of President Pence by the end of the year, such is the rate at which Trump is lurching from one self-inflicted crisis to another.

As much as I'd hate to agree with old Ben up there, he's right, the electoral college is a good system (or at least it achieves one vital aim).

Without it, the Democrats win pretty much every election because the bulk of the US population reside in California and the North Eastern blue states. It's where most of the wealth is generated too. Without the collage, the rural communities get screwed - which I believe was a central issue in this last election.

There are a lot of visuals around that show the heavily slanted population distribution in the US. I find this one is the most illustrative:

ams-usa-population.png

This one is just as important, showing where the US generates its wealth:

us-gdp-by-city-3d.jpg

The wealth in the USA is extremely concentrated.

The electoral college prevents these areas from running roughshod over the needs of those who live in the other areas.

I suppose it's ironic that in the case of the last election, the college allowed for the election of a billionaire from one of those centres (New York) claiming he represented the 'working class' rural communities.

And just while I'm on graphics, this one is pretty interesting too (brought to my attention when a mate linked me a John Oliver clip - whatever you think of him, the stat here is pretty staggering):

http://www.politifact.com/personalities/donald-trump/

Adding those figures up, 69% of what Trump says is a lie (this excludes the 'half true' figure of 14%).

This is flat out dangerous. You can't make policies based on lies. Actually, maybe you can. But you shouldn't.

Also, just for the lols:

giphy.gif:

(I know, out of context etc, I just think it's a funny gif)

Choke - how does the fact checker work? Is 15% lies over Trump's lifetime, his political career or just the statements that the fact checkers bother to check?

I thought you lefties wanted to ban advertising for gambling agencies when the odds are stacked completely in their favour?

I'm holding all bets on Trump lasting his term at even money. Step right up...

It's more like 69% lies (Mostly False plus False plus Pants on Fire).

Their selection criteria is found here:

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2013/nov/01/principles-politifact-punditfact-and-truth-o-meter/

If you'd like to see the claims themselves:

Pants on Fire claims by Trump

False claims by Trump

Mostly False claims by Trump

National Security Adviser - Mike Flynn has resigned. Not unusual to lose staff - but 25 days in, to lose a new appointee for "inadvertently briefing the President and Vice President with incomplete information" - is not a good look.

Sean Spicer will be next.  He can't get the correct pronunciation of names of Heads of State.  His latest faux pas was "Joe" Trudeau and he was reading from a script which said Justin Trudeau, Prime Minster of Canada.  Not that hard really!

And it seems Trump has it in for him and his ill fitting suits and was most aghast at the parody of Spicer on SNL!!

No, Spicer won't last long.

I don't think there is much evidence that  U.S. electoral college has prevented the wealthy from running roughshod over anybody they choose to in the US.!

I do have strong stances though ...

Gun laws in the USA - riiculous

$7.40 minimum wage - even more ridiculous

2.8 million incarcerated ... words fail me.

Who do I blame ... both Democrats & Republicans.  They are as bad as each other.

It pays to not be welded/rusted on to either side.

Choke - I will put it to you that the fact I am willing to bet and put my money where my mouth is. Is because I am centre right, conservative and worry about real world problems that are measurable. Unlike, unaccountable left wing theory, that never eventuates. I wouldn't bet on that either.

Gun laws in USA are ridiculous. Thank goodness we had Howard to fix our local problem.

$7.40 Minimum wage is ridiculous. Thank goodness we had Abbott to stop the boats and illegal immigrants undercuting the minimum wage in droves.

I simply don't bet money on anything, it's a blanket rule I've applied to my life. It has nothing to do with the strength of my view that somehow he'll be ousted by years' end.

If it's a cash bet you're after then maybe someone else will take you up on it. As I said, happy to bet the shame of changing demonland avatars or something like that.

We possibly/probably need safeguards just in case but I'm not convinced with the arguments either way.

I'm generally cautious so cutting down on emissions makes sense (if one is a cautious type)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
