On a serious note about that kick, at least he saw the right option. I was starting to lose my [censored] in the previous few weeks with the repetitive long bombs to no one.

The kid lowers his eyes, while more senior teammates boot the [censored] out of it.

Actually helps that Hogan isn't there, because we aren't bombing it.

We bomb it to Gawn, which is fine because he is 100 meters taller than his opponent (and is the god of everything), but bombing it inside 50 when Hogan is always triple teamed, is a bad move.

Yesterday players needed to keep calm and actually try to find a target, and it worked really well. Need to remember this when Hogan is playing.

Maybe I'm reading the thread wrong, but I haven't seen much drawing implications on his future from the kick.  Generally the vibe has been positive and the comments have been joking about it more than anything else.

It was a pretty funny kick.

Two good games in a row. OMac is certainly putting his case forward. Classic Roos project player. Tracking better than his brother at this stage.

Picket Fence is Demonland's answer to Benny Hill.

Despite what some Demonlanders have been banging on about for 27 pages, Oscar has improved with every game. He makes the odd error back there (see Frost and TMac too), but his contested stuff is getting better, as is his decision making. This year is a vital one for his development and I'm glad the FD have got as many games into him as possible. I hope that trust continues into next year.

As I've said before, he looked completely incompetent in his two games last year, but outside of a few contests where he's been outmuscled this season, he's done well. And much like his brother, he's a very good reader of the ball in flight. In terms of being outmuscled though, I'm sure they'll be aiming to build him up in the gym, so his strength in the contest is enhanced.

He also seems to stand taller when his brother is around. I think they really do love playing together. I hope he's as durable as his brother. Backline continuity in a new system cannot be underestimated.

Anyway, sit tight, picket et al.

Much more creative then his brother and doesn't seem to be afraid to push right up to our forward line with run and carry.

Tom is far more creative, but Oscar is a better kick. Probably because he keeps things simpler.

Good evening all

Seems like i have been asked to quantify, apologise, give homage to and generally admit that I was wrong with Oscar Mc Donald!

Ok, yes he played a very good game and has improved , but IMV he still lacks pace and still worries me with his decsiion making!

Still have many reservations but yes, he did play well yesterday!

As a 30 year coach of the VFA or whatever you are Picket, what do you think improves with more experience (ie game time)? I'll give you a clue.

I know what you are looking for ... But I won't acknowledge because, You cant improve on PACE!

He is all too slow and the only slow defender that ever made it was David Rhys Jones!

Nuff said!

picket, one question ......

Why have you edited the OP months after you wrote it and also deleted most of your previous posts in this thread?

It's almost like you know that this thread is biting you on the ass and will continue to do so forever. Also it show that you are an untrustworthy poster with no character, integrity nor credibility.

The field dribble kick is the new drop punt, just watch it take off. Clearly blew the game open. Hawks never recovered from it.

I've been critical, but he was good today. Just needs to develop and back himself more, his skills aren't bad.

Field dribble kick, mate.

maybe he's a natural forward in disguise?  those kicks score regularly.

such writings about other posts, & how that will hurt young minds.  my they are precious young things.

Or is it that the fragility is actually elsewhere, on the forum?

Their 3-year age difference probably means that they wouldn't have played much together before Oscar joined the Dees.

It's almost like he's improving the longer he's in the AFL side? crazy stuff!

Having watched Oscar train quite a bit, i'm not of the view he is in fact slow, he's just not fully adjusted above the shoulders to AFL footy and can at times be a step behind, which is all it takes to look slow at the elite level.

That isn't what you originally said.

Otherwise you wouldn't have gone back and changed all your posts.

The only thing i would have liked to see Oscar do on the weekend that he didn't was in the passage of play where he invented the field dribble pass. I would have loved him to keep running, get to 50 and nail the goal. He had the room but I think lacked the confidence. Hopefully that will come.

If he had done that though we wouldn't all have had a great laugh and seen the invention of a new pass!

I was critical of OMac earlier in the year, but am now starting to understand the decision to play him since it is paying off. Oscar's last two games have been impressive and though he makes the occasional mistakes, he has been important. He is incredibly young and virtually a first year player, which I often forget and overlook. As he continues to bulk up and improve, I think he will be a very good defender and may even surpass his brother.

You've recently edited your op picket. Taken out all the vitriolic bagging of OMac that you wrote. Seems you've had a change of heart.

Nice back pedalling buddy.

It's just another glass half-full/half-empty sitch.

Oscar has some tools. He'll improve. There's no disputing that.

But unlike some on here, I think he makes too many errors during games and it's some of the basic stuff that doesn't necessarily change with 'development' as we've seen with players like Grimes, Garland etc etc.

I mean, I hate to nit-pick but his handballing alone is possibly the worst I've seen of any player on our list bar Spencer. Technique, decision making, speed, timing. That's only a handball I'm talking about.

For a player of his development (or lack- there-of), he has been thrown to the wolves and he has battled admirably. I won't deny that.

But there is no way he would be playing AFL level footy at this point in his career had we had some quality key position pillars on the list.

It certainly speaks a whole lot about Garland and Dunn and makes me wonder what and how they're feeling playing VFL during wins like Saturday's. And also whether or not they'll play for us again..

Vandenberg is easily our worst handballer, by quite a way. Misses one or two simple targets every week without fail. Oscar's occasional poor handballs are a result of a couple of experience things. 1) the speed of the game & 2) knowing what to do in a pressure situation (experience).

But posters will bring up his Disposal Efficiency to counter your argument. His decision making and execution by hand is deplorable. They invariably reach there target, but disadvantages the team.

He reminds me of an Essendon player of the 80's, Kevin Walsh. When he first started, he was the whipping boy of the Bomber supporters. Ended up playing for Victoria. One can only hope that O Mac can improve at the same level.

He lacks urgency for mine. A bit like the Watts of old. Doesn't/can't body players out of the way and when the ball is in dispute he can be a liability because of his casual approach.

Is improving no doubt but i have my heart in my mouth when the ball goes near him.....

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
