Everything is so disgustingly one-sided, it really is a disgrace to the league management and media. I'd go as far as to say it's the best thing that's ever happened to the EFC. They'll end up dominating the competition out of this. They know they're untouchable, they can lie, cheat, steal, do whatever it takes (cough cough) and they know it will all be positive.

[censored] off. If I didn't love my club I'd walk away. I don't know if it will happen but the other clubs should really get together and let Gil know all this [censored] needs to be toned down. He's obviously pulling the strings, with Ruperts help (or vice versa) and I'm sure other clubs supporters will have already walked away from their sport over this.

Well said to both of the above quotes Belly. I was horrified at last night's commentary. Hero Worship it should not be

Produce the Paperwork you cheating Bastards

Just heard Brent Stanton on the ABC radio talking about last night and their comeback. He used the term "supplement saga". WTF? As usual no comment from the media.

A bit like politicians calling speed cameras "road safety cameras."

It was an illegal performance-enhancing drugs regime, not a [censored] "supplements saga." I wonder how large the bonus was for the PR spin doctor who pulled that term out of their ass.

People forget that these guys cheated. They aren't innocent victims, if they had any evidence at all they could have proved their innocence, they didn't even keep their own personal records.

I hate this returning hero mentality, no one should be celebrated for doing the wrong thing

Rohan Connelly was equally nauseating on SEN this morning, went on for ages. Was there any other games yesterday?

Finally, someone in the media wrote it:  "Fairytale’ is not to be used when describing a Round 1 victory of a team that had six players return from their 12-month suspension for doping offences."

http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-outsider-two-genuine-footy-heroes-prove-why-football-fairytale-term-cant-be-overused/news-story/e820d10556cc732b28d2bf2829f31cbb

A Good story about real AFL heroes:  Jason McCartney and Jarryd Roughead.

It took someone outside the AFL media bubble to call out out the hypocrisy of the bomber players return fanfare.  Those inside the bubble will never say it.  (In fact I'm a bit surprised fox footy even published it!)

Pretty sad for TWSNBN really, because of the drugs.Their badge is Cheats Forever. Not even History can be changed for that one. Some pretty good T shirts floating around.

Their coach says the returning players have 'hit the wall'.

An interesting rundown on the 10 at Essendon.  The 6/7 at other AFL clubs have  been injured or similarly flat.  http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/report-card-for-returned-essendon-players-not-great-reading-20170419-gvo2nh.html

Perhaps its just that the drugs have worn off and their bodies can't cope with 'normality'.

Just hope Melksham and Hibberd are exceptions...

You are forgetting that on April 25, they are "heroes". (Somehow)

Best result: Collingwood thrash them. Then Eddie on an emotional high extends Buckley's contract for 2 more years.

Didn't our former coach say something similar about our team after Round 2 last year?

What those summaries don't say is that Watson and Stanton might have retired but for their year out and Howlett and Hocking weren't necessarily starting 22 players anyway. Also, Hooker is being played out of position. Apart from the injured players (eg Myers), it's really only Hurley and arguably Heppell that aren't performing as expected without an obvious reason. That's really no different from any other team - all teams have players not living up to expectations. For example, Jack Viney.

Those comments don't change the fact that as a group they are struggling to get on the park or perform to the AFL standard, according to their coach.

Similar to that are the other returning Ess players:  Crameri, Carlisle, Monfires, Ryder, Melksham and Hibberd - they are also struggling with either injury or form (except maybe Ryder).  (Yet to see how Hibberd goes at AFL level.  Hope for our sake he is the exception.  Also hope that Melksham starts to have an impact soon because so far he has just fiddle around with the ball).

Yes, all clubs have under performing players, but as a group of 16 there is little evidence that their bodies are standing up to the rigor of AFL football either not getting on or not performing on the park.  And yes, there could be any number of reasons.

It is good that you give them the benefit of the doubt - it is something I struggle with for all those involved with that sorry mess.

I think Melksham seems fine with respect to his body "standing up". It's his skills which are poor and always have been. I think he's playing just as he was, no better and no worse.

I am at the crossroads coming up to this match. In the normal course of events, I dont want either team to win. To even up the ledger, I am obliged to hope for a Collingwood victory and hope for the pies to hit Essendon with everything.

Reluctantly, go Pies !!!!

You do realise that under the Federal Government's new citizenship test a Melbourne supporter hoping for a Collingwood victory is deemed to be un-Australian and you may be deported?

I realise now that my support for Collingwood was un ethical, un conscionable and  un acceptable. I withdraw it and apologise to all.

Hey, nothing like an 80% price hike to set the membership numbers flowing, i hope not. Time for these two troglodytes to get back in the shade, hopefully as the attendances testify....

It is seriously disgusting that Essendrug are still given this sacred day to represent ANZAC Soldiers who fought and died whilst the English drank tea in the next Cove.

But i am sure Gill will be happy that "Essendrug are now paying off their Legal debts" by inflating ticket prices.

Will not be watching

I like the way you managed to put in some gratuitous but irrelevant criticism of the Poms.

Their arrogance grows! unbelievable.  Pies froze prices last year when it was their home game (not often I praise the Pies but fair play).  massive price hikes to pay for their fk-ups!?!?   they should be tail between their legs thankful that they have retained this fixture.

The word hate in footy circles is now reserved for the Bombers only. for me. no other club comes close to this pack of morons that are doing their best to screw the sport up. a bottom 4 finish, jobe, stanton retiring and nothing on the horizon sounds good to me.

I will also not be watching the drug cheats (even though I want to watch it)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
