Could this story be any dodgier.

What next...Gill's dog eats it !!

These people are without doubt some of the slimiest creatures to ever be involved in our great game. I reckon its a deflection, and a deal has already been done to hand it back to the convicted drug cheat after the heat dies down.

Gil - not only slimy but clueless and incompetent.

Really - no idea what to do with it?  Hasnt given it any thought?  Hasn't had time to think about it?  What has he been doing?  Utter incompetence!!

Heppell as Captain and plans to "lead by example"! Please spare us.

They're all good little boys now

(who all lied to WADA)

Why do the media continue to call this the Supplements scandal?

Why not refer to it as ORGANISED iLLEGAL DRUG TAKING FOR GAINING ADVANTAGE IN SPORT

IT WAS  NOT SUPPLEMENTS AND IT IS NOT A SAGA!

It is drug taking and it was club sponsored. The media and AFL are trying to make it apppear less than it was and they continue to do  so

I see the Leopards of Windy Hill have changed nought

Why would one stick a "trinket" worth thousands of dollars in the drawer?

My first thought was, "nah, its worthless". Then I thought, what if it was made officially available for anyone to buy? What would someone pay? And I think you're right. Some rich, mad Essendon supporter might pay multi-thousands to have it. Which is the madness of elite sport - people will pay way more than they should for something that is actually worthless. Like a Melbourne membership in 2013.

I notice that Ben McDevitt, Head of ASADA for the last three years, has announced he will not renew his contract when it comes up for renewal in May. I think we all owe McDevitt a huge debt in this saga.

At the height of the pressure generated by Hird's and the AFL PR machines which tried to discredit WADA and ASADA in an effort to intimidate them into not prosecuting and appealing, McDevitt stood firm inspite of a quite spiteful personal campaign against him. I think very few people would have had the courage to stand up to this public (Hird's legal/PR team and his tame Press-pack), institutional (AFL) and beaucratic (Daniel Andrews, Tony Abbott) intimidation. In this there is no doubt McDevitt's experience as a senior investigator in the Federal police where he mostly worked on international crime stood him in very good stead. Let's hope he is replaced by someone with equal resolve, courage and integrity.

We as supporters, and indeed the AFL and even Essendon (though no doubt they do not think so now) should thank him for his very distinguished service and wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do next. We are very fortunate to have bureaucrats of such quality.

You can see where Junior gets his tenuous grasp on reality from !!

It really does Irk me to open the little  paper and every second day there is a story on this, that and every other thing to do with Essendope! I'ts like a continued hard luck story that has made good! Save me!!!

In reality this  mob should have been eradicated from the game entirely! What are the press doing pumping up at every opportunity this cesspool of a club??

fascinating reading

No illegalities but naivety at the very least

If the conflict was disclosed as suggested by the article, I don't see any problems. If anything, the only party which might have acted questionably is ClubsNSW and then only if they deliberately ignored the conflict, by which I mean they didn't confirm arms length negotiations between Demetriou's company and CrownBet.

I have to add, though, that the photo of AD amused me. I'm so used to seeing Stephen Dank on his phone whenever the media is present I wondered whether that was who was on the other end of the call.

Demetriou always seems to be overseas when anything dodgy hits a fan.

Andrew seems to have fingers in all these pies...

Similar media avoidance strategy to Dank, but a more expensive method. All Dank could do was put his phone to his ear and pretend to be on a call.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
