I'd get it done and be thankful they don't ask for more with that pick continuing to slide. Dee's now need to get creative to get back into the earlier stages of the draft

hehe, next years pick is gonna slide a lot more

I'd say the assumption is that picks are always going to slide each year with free agency and academy picks.

I imagine we are wanting to use our current 2nd round pick on another deal.

Next years second round pick is fair in my opinion. Especially considering we've had to wait a year for Melksham.

absolutely.
That and the rumours from trade radio that we are going to make a play for someone, i recon this years pick will be used somewhere else other than Hibberd (ideally).

Yep sure will DC.

Finishing fifth will mean Essendrug get done well and truely!

I hadn't heard that rumor. What was said?

Doubt it. More likely we're trying to even out our drafts given we have no first rounder this year. A second round pick this year and a first round pick next year is more balanced than both next year and nothing until the third round this year.

(This is of course excluding us trading picks for picks which is a high possibility IMO)

This is exactly why Essendon want this years pick.

It is also probably a bargaining ploy to ensure they don't ask for anything more for him. We start with a little more and we'd take it and run if we could get it done for next year's, but we'll also be happy to settle for this year's.

Confirmation here that we've offered a second round draft pick from next year for Hibberd. Essendon wants a second round this year.

love this...playing essendon at their own game of "dancing with shadows !!"

Starting to really like the way the club goes about this. It's not perfect , and still dubious about the cost of Milkshake , but we seem a rather lateral mob come a dealings time now.

Esendon will no dount think we are well and truly on the hook for Hibberd. We might be, but to throw a curve ball at them in a subtle way is a good ploy. They will need to now offload Hibberd  and use that pick( whatever it is we give them ) much more than we actually need Hibberd.

Upper hand firmly held by the Dees.  Well done

I think you are over thinking this, it is not a curve ball, we have given them two scenarios, will be up to them to decide which one they would like to go with, I am sure we have a plan either way, Hibberd wants to be at MFC and not Essendon, something will be worked out and quite quickly I would have thought

I think youre underthinking it. Or dont actually comprehend the mechanics od dealing.

The power of any negotiation is who blinks.  99% of all 'purchases'are driven by the fear of losing. Dont believe me ask any well heeled advertising exec.

What Melbourne has done is turn the tables on Essendon.  They will now deal with us as we wish, not as they wish. New territory for them no doubt.

I understand negotiation, we have given them two alternatives, so what you think is going to happen is Essendon will 'panic' and accept the next year pick? They have the player who wants to move to MFC, and we supposedly want the player, it doesn't necessarily mean it will actually happen the way we want it to, I think the negotiation is on equal footing

Saty, what are the two alternatives.  We have offered next year's 2nd round pick.  Did I miss the other offer?

You can bet your bottom dollar we have put more than next years 2nd round pick on the table, just to see how it falls, you really think we would say next years 2nd round pick or it doesn't happen, wouldn't surprise me if there were two or three scenarios on the table, including this years 2nd round pick and other picks etc

Just one offer thus far - "Their situation is they've offered a future second and we'd just like to get this year's second round so we're discussing that with them at the moment." Dodoro said.

Absolutely. Offer them what we want to give them and see what happens.

Lol, now Saty is Melbourne's trade negotiating 'expert'!

Dont expect Essendon to take next years pick at all.. I might think Melbourne might offer a pick, still 2nd round but not the one they might have already 'banked"

edit

or Melbourne might find juicier fruit available using said "2nd rounder" and suggest Efc take it or leave it....back to 'blinking"

Again...it's a game.. we are playing them...instead of BEING played.  its fascinating We CANT lose...they can

I think we can all come up with alternative scenarios but that wasn't what your earlier posts said.

No I don't think we would say it is next years 2nd round or it doesn't happen, nor did I say anything of the sort.

I wasn't doubting you or the club Saty, just asking for clarification on the 2nd alternative as you mentioned it in several posts and it sounded like you knew of 2 specific offers on the table.

If you think that is how negotiation during trade week happens then you must be a bit naive, I am not the expert, but I have had conversations with people who have been directly involved in trade week,  but I am also not that naive to think we would say take it or leave it

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
