Some great players there for sure...there was a type of playing by some Melbourne players led by Hanna that included the likes of Russell Smith, Wayne Burt, Bob Starkey. Kind of a rock and rockabilly blend, Wayne Burt does it really well. I think it was a sign of the times when we were more isolated and hand no internet, mates played together and taught each other licks and tricks...a little bit like different accents in spoken language. You could tell a bit about a player from where they came.

Yeah, you're right about that Melbourne sound... in the late 70's there were all of the bands that played the venues like the Station Hotel, Kingston Hotel, Bananas Lounge, Tiger Room etc... bands like The Bleeding Hearts, Sports, Millionaires, Bel Air Bandits, and before them The Pelaco Brothers, Autodrifters, Relaxed Mechanics, etc... so many great bands and venues.

I have the dubious honour of being banned from both the Bombay Rock and the Croxton Park Hotel in the late 70's early 80's..... ah the good times

Might be time for me to follow a  Zappa quote and "Shut up and play your guitar"...

Better do the shopping first though and maybe watch Richmond cop a hiding.

Note however that there are two meanings to the verb 'practise'. Practising your football skills is not the same as practising your religion. A practising solicitor or doctor is not a beginner.  ^_^

Well, for your edification...

Was really just taking the pizz. Tiny Tim and my son when he was 3 year old are the only uke players i have seen/heard. Until I watched the video above the uke rated with the recorder.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
