Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Defence is still a work in progress

Way too many young inexperienced players in there.

OMac is a lliability ATM. Wagner spoils his good work with brain fades for mine. The lack of body on Bruest and lack of urgency when Bruest was paddling the ball around the boundary in the last quarter was the game killer. Hunt works hard and takes the game on.

Thank the lord for Jetta who holds it together.

We do okay for long periods but the goals we give away tend to be from real amateur mistakes, and from the opposition running rings.

I really hate seeing one of our defenders go up to punch the ball and miss it completely, or for all of our defenders to go up while 2-3 of their players hang back and pounce when the ball falls out the back.

The major problem now is definitely inexperience. Our defence is our only liability at the moment and it will cost us a finals appearance. We are no where near finals-caliber with this backline. One more season and we should get there.

How depressing.

We appeared to play a different zone Saturday Our full back line defended closer to goals all day and we had periods of one on one.We actually contested which was good to see

I hope the coaches have learned something from last weeks debacle

I actually think we played the same zone, we just executed it better, they zoned off the same but they wernt as high ensuring their smalls couldnt get out the back as easily. If there was a stoppage just forward of center (for hawthorn) then they played much tighter than they had in the past and backed that support would come to help them rebound. We did leak alot more scores than I would have liked but playing deeper and tighter meant most of those scores were under pressure/touched/rushed. Rather than the countless joe the goose goals over the back. A defencive effort like that should get us over the line against any middle and low tier teams, but stilll improvement to come before it beats the best.

We need to be able to adjust , the zone went ok against hawks but not port - same thing happened to collingwood against port yesterday playing a zone . We shouldnt be pig headed about our journey and play a defence that actually works against certain teams . Winners are grinners .

Other teams must lick their lips when the line up against our defence.  Excluding Jetta, it must be one of the easiest jobs in football to out think a Melbourne defender at the moment.  Wagner, O Mac, T Mac, Frost... Footy IQ is not their forte'.  Hunt looks the most likely at the moment of the youngsters to get there - his timing looks good.

Gunston did that hugely complicated and strategic 'duck back in the opposite direction to which he was originally going' and because of how stupid it made our defenders look it actually figured in 'PLAYS OF THE WEEK'.  Seriously.

Granted, we were a hell of a lot better than last week as a defensive unit - but with all of these guys in the team, a glaring game changing error is always just around the corner.

Just one assured tall defender would be nice!

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
