Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Should we play a 2nd ruck?

Is Jake in a position similar to where Max was at the very start of last season?  Building from injury, lacking a pre-season, but determined to make something of his best attributes and improve everywhere else.  I don't think Jake will play more than a couple of games in the heat of this year (maybe some at the tail) and believe they'll be as first ruck while we manage Max.   So perhaps this thread is a bit premature in relation to his ability to play the role now, but I do see him making his case very strongly for it next year if he gets through the entire pre-season.  Wouldn't be surprised at all if he gets the $50 (or $100 can't remember) 'most improved/determined/outstanding/etc' award at the post season camp.  It's make or break in 2017 for him.

As I have said in other posts.

Max can not be expected to do it on his own.

Pencil is required especially against teams that have a couple of reasonable rucks.

St. Kilda showed us what can happen.

The doggies also showed us what can happen.

admittedly we didn't have pencil on the park to help him out.

I would like to think Gawny would dominate this week with one hand tied behind his back.

But he following week we play PA in Alice.

Why not give Jake a Guernsey for that game. We must try the setup to see if can work.

Port have no reasonable rucks so I sure hope we don't try your experiment against them...

Well Jake has only had a couple of games this year - when he gets a few more under his belt then maybe, especially if he does a bit of marking and scoring at Casey.

With Kent and Gartlett plus mids streaming forward Betty only needs to bring ball to ground if he can't mark it, when resting forward. He and Max in full aggro mode in ruck with our emerging mid is a serious advantage.

Not While Paul Roos is still coaching. He doesn't seem to like playing 2 ruckman. We played Gawn & Spencer against Geelong in Geelong last year & it worked really well then the next week we played West Coast in Darwin & he kept Spencer & Gawn in & he also brought Dawes back into the team & we were to top heavy we Had Hogan, Dawes, Gawn & Spencer & that was not the right move in Darwin & the next week he dropped Spencer & he didn't play him for the rest of the year so I can't see Paul Roos playing 2 Ruckman. I prefer 2 Ruckman as Gawn is going to get tired shortly rucking on his own. Which may have contributed to last weeks performance I guess will never no.

I would be interested to find out whether any stats have been kept on how Melbourne fares when Max is playing on the ball compared to when he's being rested.

The feeling I get (and it has yet to be proven by available data) is that we have done significantly better when he's been on the ball and that many of our lapses in games have come when he has been off the ball.

If that's in fact the case then it might be worth trying another genuine ruckman to play that role - and at the only player we have to fit that bill is Spencer.

Jack, my observation is that we're  far less effective when Max is off the ball, or off the boil.

Dawes was playing in the Geelong game...you've really answered the question of why we don't do it. In the Darwin game we added Hogan and we were too top heavy for wherever we were playing, not just Darwin.

So if you want to play the 2nd ruck then one of the tall forwards needs to go or we will be too top heavy. Personally I don't think either of the rucks will work as a KPF...

Yes. Spencer and Max play.  Pedersen (Dawes - Frost) out. Spence offers much more in the ruck, is more aggressive around the ball and as a deep forward must be manned up, allows Hogan to play CHF. Its not like Pedereson-Frost  have been on fire as a KPF. Gawn has 7 goals Frost 4 Pedersen 5.  Hitouts last year Spencer 24.7 per game average Dawes 3.1 Pedersen 3.3 -- Goals last year Spencer .4 per game average Dawes .8 Pedersen .9

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
