Ladder to Nowhere?

If the players genuinely think they can make the 8 a sense of momentum takes hold. Once we are in the eight 'possession is 9/10's of the law' takes over. In previous runs at the 8 we had huge winning streaks and tended to run over the top of teams in the second half of the year. I am hoping this will happen in 2016.

Way to early for the predictor. Its an even season, teams will come into form, other teams will get injuries and lose their self belief. This happens every season and this season will be no different.  I don't care what the predictor says, it means nothing....... if you win 12 games with good percentage you will make the finals.

Exactly....

It is an 18 team competition with 8 finals spots over 22 rounds.

Doesn't matter who you play, as GNF said you just have to win 12 games with %.

The predictor is based on past history and assumptions.

The point of the thread is to illustrate that with so many even teams at the top of the ladder and the presence of so many bad teams right now - Ess, Fre, Carl, Coll, BL, Rich, etc - that old adage of 12 wins and percentage may not be enough for 8th.

And the predictor is up to you, not history...

This week we play the Dogs to go ahead of them, and maybe even replace them in the 8, dragging them out.

We're in this position despite one shock loss and one disappointing loss.

And our overall form is 'trending up'.

We are the predator lurking at the edge of the herd, waiting to chase down whichever one falls lame or gets old.

And if we get a run on, it wont even matter if there's a lame one, we'll take them down anyway.

I'm ok with this as our 2016 scenario.

The team we beat in round 1 smashed them by 12 goals.

Having a player say that a team is 'gettable' is not a bad thing - you do understand that, yes?

It is a bad thing   in fact it was the dumbest thing Ive ever heard come from a Demon players mouth

Just a reminder we lost that game by 100

I have created an entirely plausible season in the predictor where we win 14 games and still finish 9th. A game out, not even simple percentage...

Possible, but not plausible. No team has ever missed the 8 with 13 wins or more.

We are also the youngest team in the competition and therefore most prone to changes in form and losing when we shouldn't.

I'll let the season just pan out confident we are finally going to be a very good football team at some point in the future.

For the past five rounds we've stayed stationary on the ladder after a win and moved up a spot after a loss. Remarkably, there's a very decent chance this will repeat next week - moving into the 8 if we lose to the Dogs. This season is whack.

Will be the most welcomed 9th in history...

PS, anything about 11th means the future pick trade made last year for Oliver and Weed is a success. Turning a pick 6 and a pick 10 (possibly later) into picks 3 and 7... getting us the players we got too.

Could be our Emmit Smith moment.

I do believe there's another bundle of academy kids to come through in the top-10, too, so our draft opt-out could be even better than that.

Plus, we may in turn look to get back into the better end of the draft by trading mid-range picks to be 'cashed in' for the academy bids.

Work'n tha system, yo.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
