GAMEDAY - Round 6

We ate not out of this, but we need to change the way we are trying to play.

Over to you coaching staff

Maybe that was our bad quarter....here's hoping.

Hope so. We our 60 mins away from discovering if this team is the real deal.

Did the players do it again and talk themselves that they had already won this game

Also, Bugg, you can stand up now and be a total dick again. It worked wonders last week.

Nobody's started a scrap yet and St Kilda tend to fall apart under serious grunt; get the hell into their players and make it dirty! We have nothing to lose.

This has probably been mentioned, but Petracca needs to take the first option. You're not a superstar yet, son. Don't over complicate it.

Hard to see us winning this. All our vulnerabilities are exposed in one fell swoop.

Gawn, Viney, McDonald, Watts, Garlett, Kent et al are all well down. Saints want it more.

Got nothing from Kent and Garlett so far

Lol's at those sticking it to the first-gamer.

I just think we're flat. They have all the run.

Worst possible time to play the Saints at Etihad for a home game, with 5.5 days rest.

You could tell from half-way through the first they were tired.

Riewoldt has just worked out that we're playing zone defence, so he just puts himself in the "zone" of Jetta, Salem or Jones.

Or Wagner, Salem and Hunt.

Inexperience.

Wouldn't mind betting on Garland back in next week.

Playing that bad and still only 2 goals down, previous years we would have been cooked.

Who's sticking it to a first gamer? People are giving their opinion on a player most people have probably never seen live before. It's only natural.

We are complacent on and off the field this week.

So risky playing Wagner Hunt and Harmes down back. No experience and running out of legs. I mean I know everyone on here hates them and they're unfashionable, but we have two seasoned defenders in the VFL in Garland and Grimes. At least they'll give a defensive contest and won't run out of steam at half time.

Add to this Petracca who isn't even ready and was pushed ahead of guys like ANB who has been smashing the door down at Casey.

I thought we were done with this [censored] development mode and that we are now trying to win games. I hope like hell that we start winning the clearances or we are truly [censored].

Just now, leave it to deever said:

feel sorry for hogan, jones and bernie

cant believe technically we are still in it

We're not really. They dominated that quarter. Shouald be 5-6 goals down.

Ignore the scoreline, we're cooked. We have no energy and it won't magically appear after halftime.

We needed more changes than just Brayshaw with so many in-form players in the twos knocking on the door. Adding a 0 gamer to an already green team was comfortably risky and borderline stupid after a 5.5 day break.

I actually believe the Petracca selection was more about trying to get a bigger crowd than smashing the door down at Casey...

I stated previously that I believe he should've been held back until our MCG home game against the Bullfrogs

And yet, we're not. We were on top in the first, no reason we can't get on top again.

True. Just think we're flat and they play the ground too well.

We were only on top because we won every clearance. The likelihood of that happening for the next half is low.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
