Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thank You Paul Roos and Peter Jackson

There have been murmurings ginned up by people like Barrett (Jack Viney will ask for a trade to Port at the end of 2016) or Caro (PJ is disgruntled as the board is trying to poach Brian Cook) but their twaddle has never gotten any further oxygen from those inside the club. PJ runs a tight ship and most of those rumors ended with the person responsible for  starting them.

I would expand the thanks to include our president, Glen Bartlett. I know he is low profile and his public speaking can be boring, but his quietness,  behind the scenes ground work and business acumen have done a lot of unsung work for MFC. The fact that he lets Roos and PJ do all the public stuff, and he is happy in the background shows a wisdom and dedication to teamwork that shames oth3r clubs like Collingwood etc...

These three men - Roos, PJ and Bartlett - have done moer for us in 3+ years than all the falsse dawns of Barassi, Stynes etc...

I'd love for Roosy to stay at Melbourne in some capacity next year. However, if we somehow make the finals this year, everyone in the footballing community will be calling him a genius and will be targeted by the next struggling club to take over and emulate the same thing (e.g. Perhaps Richmond).

I highly doubt he will take up any full time role in football again. I got the strong feeling when he took on the job with us that he had done a deal with Tammy that this would be it and after the 3 years they would be spending time in the US.

I don't think it would hurt if we started signing a few of our players, to keep the momentum going as well.

Most clubs have had a number of players sign new contracts and we have a number of important players who haven't.

Josh Mahoney, Todd Viney and Jason Taylor have been super important in this rebuild too.

They are a consequence of those named in this thread. If you really wanted to traverse the tree all the way down, you could probably name 100 people who have contributed at some level.

Josh Mahoney is a legend,  I assume he engineered the trade that moved us up to pick 3 to get Clayton Olkiver while also getting pick 7 and Weidemann

The gamble to trade away our first rounder this season looks like it will pay off huge if we keep playing this well. Even if we finish 10th that equates to pick 9, and Weidemann is already showing in the VFL he is going to be a player.

TV rights deal. I'm sure all parties are waiting for that before signing. Given Hogan's importance and the likelihood of a lucrative deal coming his way, that will obviously impact on how much is left for the rest of them. But we won't know this for sure until the TV deal is formalised.

I'm not aware of what he's done "behind the scenes" and would be interested to know.  Can you elaborate?

And yes I agree it's nice to finally have a Chairman who realizes it's not all about him.  He knows his role and he's playing it unlike many before him.

  • 5 years later...

I was going through my old stuff and looked at my membership and the number of consecutive years: 7. Probably a lot less than the majority of you guys but in total I've been a member for around 13 years. One of the reasons for my break was the disillusion of where the club was heading after the Neeld years (being a broke uni student probably tipped me over the edge) even though I had stuck through the tanking saga. As a Melbourne supporter, my childhood has been littered for being picked on for being one of the few Melbourne supporters. I remember seeing all the kids with Hawks colours and at auskick games hardly anyone would wear Melbourne colours. I remember being worried about if there was really going to be a future for this club.

I realised that my seven years started the second year after Roos and Jackson came in. I presume that at this point I could see where the club was going and it wouldn't be barron land forever. Even if the club might not win a premiership, we would make finals. Today, after an unbelievable year the summit has been reached. I see so many young kids wearing their Melbourne colours proudly. I am no longer worried about the future of this club.

The work that Roos, Bartlett and Jackson have done have been the foundation for our success this year. They turned us around from a rabble. I think there should be plaudits for a number of others who believed in cause and helped transform us but haven't made it to the final day:

  • Shannon Byrnes, Daniel Cross, Bernie Vince and Jordan Lewis for teaching this young team strong habits
  • Neville Jetta and Nathan Jones for being champion players and making us competitive

I'm sure there are many others that have contributed heavily to the success but won't get any plaudits. To all of you, thank you for making me proud to wear the Melbourne brand.

Started supporting half way through 1965. Lived with last round 1976 and the Footscray Carlton draw.
UK for 1987 then lived through 5 minutes of sunshine under Swoop, Balmey and Rev.

Felt for the tragedies and early passings that have been well documented. Allegations of tanking - was at Jordie MCMahon game. Also 186, in Geelong Members’ Stand.
Watched as the Neeld horror show unfolded - a loss less than 100 was “break even”. Subsequently watched from home in Vietnam and in Covid, saw 5 games at MCG this year.
Never in dreams when PJ and Roos come on board did I think we’d be live for the finals 64 games later in 2015.  Carlton thumped us. For 2019 didn’t even have us in the eight. Dream scenario would’ve been to win one final.
Thx PJ, Paul Roos

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
