Changes v Richmond

Watched the 4th quarter replay, and I automatically regretted suggesting Oliver be dropped

He was manic and full of energy inย the final term and so creative, same with Angus. Both will play vs Richmond.

Although it appears Gus has a slight concussion.. so a chance to sit out vs Tigers

Rest Oliver? Y'all are crazy. He'll love playing Richmond. Especially if Richmond get all clampy on our other inside mids, he'll have a clearance field day.ย

I don't think he needs a rest at all. He just wasn't used as much in the guts today, probably not needed.ย

I'll have to watch the replay but there was one bit when Collingwood were mounting a comeback and Oliver turned on the intensity in the middle, hitting contests and tackles and made sure there was not a Collingwood clearance. He has game sense.ย

ย

Vince in. Hunt out.ย

Garlett only if completely fit. Watts out. Just kidding. Lumumba out. Damn it just kidding. Anyone with a niggle, I'm sure we'll get our weekly mystery injury.ย

I was watching on TV and remember seeing this and thinking how good he was in that passage of play, had 3-4 follow up efforts.

I think they are managing him from game to ย game depending on the situation so this week they din't feel they needed to play him in the guts as much. I would definitely play him in the guts this weekend as the Tigers are soft in the middle and every time we beat them it's because we are harder at the ball and man.

If Matt Jones is in Hospital with sore ribs, whether there is major damage or not, he has to be in doubt.

Vince in for Matt Jones

not sure who goes out for Garlett.

i thought Frost and Pederson were both good. Harmes looked sore too so he may get a rest.

Is this Brayshaw's second concussion? ย

I recall reading that he was - if so he should be rested, that is not play at all, not have a 'rest' at Casey. ย Could explain his (relative to 2015) lesser performance. ย

Oliver is a beast and steadied the ship when pressured yesterday - must stay v Toiges.

If Matt Jones misses through injury he will be very unlucky and could struggle to get back in. ย  He has performed his role this year far beyond the expectations of most.ย

Harmes didn't do much after the cork so they might give him a week to freshen up. Shame, because he has such strong hands and is a fantastic kick around the wing and forward.

Vince for him, Brayshaw or Matt Jones if he doesn't come up. Jones won't go if fit.

But LOL at those suggesting any of Bugg, Lumumba, Frost or Tyson getting dropped. Do you even watch games??

This might be controversialย and I love his attack on the footy and the man, but I reckon VDB is a depth player. He was vital last year with his attack and toughness, but now we have everyone playing that way. His disposal isn't strong enough and he doesn't get it enough. A handy depth player, but should make his way back via Casey. If his performances demand a recall then great, otherwise he gets his next game on the back of injury.

Performance at Casey doesn't ensure a recall. Terlich!

The replay confirms all four were excellent. ย  ย Thats easily Frosts career best game

Easily.

I'm going early, but I think there's a pretty good chance that by the time Dawes is ready, Frost might have settled in and we won't have room for Dawes.

ย

Theres no role for Dawesย anyway as he cant ruck

Pedersen and Frost are comfortably ahead of him as both can play either end of the ground and can ruck

Wouldn't be surprised if Garlett gets a run at Casey, but doubtful.

IMO

In: Garlett, Vince

Out: M.Jones, Oliver probably for a rest.

Jones probably doesn't *deserve* to be dropped, I don't think anyone explicitly does, but he has to make way. Now that Brayshaw is back, Wagner and Bugg had good games, he has to make way. If Brayshaw is concussion then swap him for Oliver.

Is it me or did Frost play that Vandenberg high half forward role and played it well too?

Bugg had 29 touches and 9 tackles today. ย Zero chance of being dropped.

Same goes for Tyson and Lumumba. ย You guys are crazy.

Spot on.

cant believe some are saying Either of those guys are out.

i think Oliver needs a rest for Bernie,ย looks tired. Hunt or matt jones might be the unlucky one if Garlett gets up.ย

I was at the Casey game. Petracca was good but djd notย demand a game. He also spent all the second half forward. Oliver rested for Vince and Frost (who was actually pretty good) for Garlett.ย

After watching the replay I actually can't see how we can drop Frost. Assuming M Jones and Harmes are fine I think it needs to be Oliver (who needs a rest)ย and Gus (who still doesn't look right) for Vince and Jeffy.

Whoever mentions Lumumba as an out should be banned from here. This run and carry game style is suiting H and now starting to get back to his best football he played at the pies.

He is not the only one who makes mistakes but he is so vital in getting the ball moving forward as quickly as possible.

ย

I also like that he his ย confidence is up and with that has come "the lowering of the eyes" ย - he finished of his work pretty well, hitting target long but importantly ย - hitting some really good short options.

ย

Vince and Garlett are definite ins. I would limit the changes to that unless there are some surprise injuries during the week. It is good that guys at Casey have to literally force their way through a closed door and will only make those on the fringes more hungry.

In terms of who makes way for the two ins, I'd say it will be out of Hunt, Brayshaw and Oliver. Harmes or Matt Jones if injured. Brayshaw still looks slightly off the pace to me. Matt Jones has given good run and I'd be reluctant to drop him unless injured.

I don't know who is in or out, but I do think Lumumba and Tyson hold onto the footy that half a second too long.

At some stage I would like to see one of them get a rest, even if it isn't VFL, it messes with our flow.

I would drop Brayshaw back to the VFL purely for fitness reasons, still looks unfit, and could do with a full game on the ball.

Likely INS for me would be: ANB, Vince, Garlett.

OUT: Tyson, Lumumba or Frost/Brayshaw. Petracca will need another few weeks in the VFL, as will Trengove.

ย

Lumumba has been outstanding the past two weeks. His 2 best games for the club.

Tyson won't be dropped and they won't drop brayshaw after bringing him in this week.

So I think you are way off the money.

Firstly - no one really deserves to be dropped but if Gartlett is fit there will be two changes for sure and certain - Vince and Gartlett.

Anyone dropped is going to be very unlucky ย - The trouble is two players who didn't too much wrong are going to have make way - I canย ย see Oliver making way - he was quieter yesterday ( but still did some nice things). Staying true toย ย Roos words of not wanting to burn out the first year playersย he may get a run at Casey.

Brayshaw looked a little rusty - but kicked a nice goal and is manic at the contest. May depend on his concussion. Is there room for Pedo and Frost ? Yesterday their certainly was. ย Harmes and Hunt ย - both made mistakes but that was completely overshadowed by what they did right which was plenty.ย

And then there is whole discussion about when we unleash Petracca. He is getting very close to being ready.

We have said before that we have had hard selection issues - but this is the hardest selection week I can remember for the last 5 years. Players that in the past would not have been dropped ( and don't deserve to be) will be dropped this week.

Is averaging 20 disposals a game. Has improved a lot with his decision making. I have not been a fan in the past but to his credit he is doing a lot of right things this year.

Reflecting, this is the first time in memory I can think of in the last 5 years where I have looked at the last two weeks of performances and have looked at the senior team and haven't had to sayย - this player and that player haveย got to be dropped - now who played well enough at Casey to be promoted. This is now a case of two definite starters (Vince and Gartlett) need to come into the sideย and one newby kicking the door down to play (Petracca) and who the hell are we going to drop to make way for them.

Whoever misses out will be stiff anyway, I just doubt they'll drop Hunt after he performed on debut. If he can do that on debut, not only should he be rewarded with his spot (and I expect he will be), but he should could very well improve next week. I think Oliver could be effective against Richmond on the inside. If I was choose who to leave out atm, I would leave out Frost and Brayshaw. I know Frost adds something different to our side, but I'm still not convinced about him, and Brayshaw still looks short of a run IMO.

yea its a tough call but one feels that vince and garlett are must ins............ the outs are the hard part.

Out: Hunt (unlucky)

ย

Garlett to get another week to fully recover, I'm guessing vandenFyfe might need some time off to recover as well.

That makes selection a little easier - I am of the opinion that VDB is not a walk up start like a Vince is. If VDB is fit to play I see him at Casey.

Oliver "looked tired" v EFC then played a blinder against North...

I would like to see him beatย up on the Tiges.

He is turning disputed ball on half back into a mark on the lead in about two and a half seconds. The way he is playing is what we've been crying out for ever since the Moloney/Neeld bomb it to a contest years...

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
