I thought that was a welcome fluke.. But I think we've learned a bit about Frost. He always improves in the secind half and his last quarter on Sunday was excellent. He has superior aerobic capacity. ย In all matches he has dropped easy marks early in the game, but improves, and I agree with another poster that he has something distinctive though if ย can become anything like Blicavs it would be a bonus. At times he looks a poor kick--his set shot early in Q3 was ordinary, but both in the kick after the bell in Q3, and some kicks in Q4 he kicked beautifully.

i still wish he could do more in the ruck--it would help enormously. But I'm now much keener on him

I watched the replay last night Frost competed all game and his second efforts were fantastic as was his tackling and bustle

He is not lacking desire and his skill definitely improved during the game

Could be a damaging ruck rover type on the ball His best game by far

Amazing how much more an effective player Heritier is when he lowers his eyes and hits targets instead of blazing away. ย Suddenly he goes from the most frustrating player in the team to a gun.

Indeed but he does need to use his handball more often and not try and burst away all of the time. Second half he had a couple of turn overs when caught trying to burst from a congested area when he had Dee's players as handball outlets.

One player who is definitely still not getting the recognition he deserves is Matt Jones. ย The work he has done to go from frustrating turnover king to dependable and reliable contributor is a credit to himself and the coaches.ย

For the record, he's averaging 20 touches, 3 tackles, 5 score involvements, 2 rebound 50s and 2 inside 50s at 75% disposal efficiency. Terrific numbers for a wingman/flanker. People still calling for him to get dropped need to see that he is not the same player of years gone by, but he is also in very comsistentย form.ย

Absolutely. Most improved player in the side so far this year.

I don't what the official stats are but it was one of the most pleasing games by foot I can remember.

There have been sections of hand-balling in the past couple weeks that rival the best of any team. This new strategy of moving to receive is genius.

I know it's just AFL fluff, but getting 3 players into the team of the week hasn't happened in a while. Gawn, Watts and Viney all make the cut. Hopefully the team as a whole is starting to attract a bit more notice.

I think thats the second time all three have made the Team of the Week already this season.. Gawn two weeks in a row

TAB long odds rnd 12. about 11am....did seem strange....

Another juicy possibility for those who like to deal with the "Turf ย Accountants"

Flemington Sportsbet have MFC at 501/1 for the flag. Three other agencies I checked have us at 150/1

i don't think we will win the flag but I don't want to be like all the Leucester supporters who didn't back their mob at 5000/1, so I've had a modest investment. Incidentally one can still get 9/1 for Deesย to make the 8--I think they are ridiculous odds. As to the flag and the 8,ย St Kilda are shorter than our mob

And his pass to Frost to open scoring in Q3 was brilliant. Frost did miss of course!

I'm glad you agree with my analysis on elite hand-balling strategy Petraccattack.

Im still not convinced on Frost as a forward.. but he is a supreme athlete and his effort is fantastic... Given his mobility and his aerobic capacity i had a similar thought. Could they give him the chance to be our Mark Blicavs type midfielder? His pressure would be fantastic in the middle and he is big and strong.

Did a beautiful smother that led to a goal.ย

pity the smother was on harmes and it led to a filth goal.ย

Whilst he has been much better, the reason his name pops up is I highly doubt he will get any better where some one like Petracca/Trengove have much higher ceilings. ย

On form he would be stiff, but hopefully sooner rather than later he isn't picked due to our Better younger players have gone pastย him.ย

That was a bit of a facepalm moment but im just happy that we have a result that allows us to laugh about it.

I agree the is going to be pushed out eventually but right now he does deserve some praise. I thought he was a list clogger but now i think he is the perfect depth man. He is doing it right now, comes in while we wait for other players to come back and is just playing hisย role. This is the sort of player good teams have running around in the VFL

I'm still getting my head around kicks hitting targets. I'll work on this handballing innovation next week.ย

Needs to start holding his marks. Then we can take him seriously against his (internal) competition

He dropped a couple but still clunked a few pretty decent grabs. Everyone drops marks, Hogan dropped a sitter on the 50 punt road end. His overall contribution was pretty good Sunday. If anything, I'd be focusing on his turnover streaming into forwardย 50 when he had Watts free on the outside that led to a Pies goal.

Round Four Team of the Week

Really looking to see Viney back up this week. He might find he has more attention this week, but either way, we need him to stand up again. When he and Gawn were down against Essendon, the whole team suffered. They are our barometerย players now and there's no reason why Viney can't break a tag if he gets one.

Probably already been mentioned in the thread.ย  If so, sorry!ย  But, I couldn't help but notice the number of times our guys successfully used LONG handballs over the top of Collingwood players to waiting team-mates who were then able to surge forward.ย  Looked great, and was, for the most part very effective.ย  Exciting stuff!ย  Dunno how many times it happened.ย  But, my poor old memory is telling me it was quite a few...

When it works it looks great BUT it relies on our players hitting their targets and turnovers can kill you.

We were running well ahead of the ball on the weekend and that is built on trust and confidence so its nice to see our players are beginning to trust each other and have confidence that their teammate will win the footy and deliver it...

ย

Watched the replay today, Bugg was a lot better than I thought when watching it live. As macabre as it is, Neale Daniher was looking a lot better than I was expecting in the crowd, good to see.

Cant wait to see Viney against the Hawks. he's never played them
