Unless they're playing against themselves, good luck with that. The odds of another team agreeing to play over there with only a week to back up for the next game is low.

That is, of course, unless someone is willing to sacrifice short term premiership points for long term gain, so maybe there's a team who will go along with it.

Someone will agree to do it on the condition they have a bye the following week. ย This is what we should do with our Darwin game each year.

This is THE STUPIDEST idea the AFL has come up with. MFC's China experiment was a total waste ofย money. The Chinese are not interested in AFL and most are the wrong body size and shape to ever play the game atย AFL level. I hope that MFC does not give away another home game for this ridiculous experiment. AFL top the poor clubs up with money and we'll get sponsors on board as we become more successful. Please, please, please MFC give this a wide berth!

The other possibility is that it is played as part of Round 1, but aย week before the rest of that round. Would have the added benefitย of robbing Carlton and Richmond from any glory they believe they get from being the first game of the season.ย

ย

i'll believe it when it happens. they have to find a ground up to afl standard first. good luck with that

They'll waste millions setting one up. There'll be razzmatazz for a year or two. By five years time the disaster will become clear and they'll pull out.

Yep, I can see them wasting heaps of money to do up the Birds Nest for one AFL match.

Money well spent!ย

we are definitely ahead of the pack in this area, as we are with the women's game.ย

Nobody in China will want to visit Adelaide anyway. Don't panic.

Another one of Schwab's great ideas?

Can't see that being a hurdle for them, they may even choose to build it on a new island.

"Port Adelaide said it would not sacrifice a home game at the Adelaide Oval to play offshore."

So they want to get all the credit for playing over there but have someone else cop the missing home game?? what crap if they start it they should pay for it. But with our China Southern connection likely pushing for us to do it... i think we can guess who will draw the short straw.ย

ย

The Chinese will love this. MFC were ahead of the curve when we were involved. Now is the right time. Hopefully it is MFC that is playing Port. A lot of $$$$ to be made, and let's face it, the game is stuffed anyway, so we may as well become a rich club.

That's definitely more important at this stage I think, and we're doing very well there. Good to continue making progress in China and other countries.

I read recently that the Denver Broncos were looking to build a link with an AFL club. Might have been North?

So that would mean a home game in Shanghai, Darwin & Alice Springs.

What are the odds we still get drawn to play a home game at Etihad also, reducing us to only 7 home games at the G.

I hope it isn't us! ย Port want to do it, they can cop it!

Don't want to spoil the mystique for you Django, but that was an April Fools gag. Obviously effective.

Oh wow. Well, they got me. Lol.

Edit: I just looked it up and found a HUN article with a mocked up jumper. Didn't see that last time!

'The Power,ย who have already broadcast a match into China this season through the country's China Central TVnetwork, say they will not sacrifice a home game at Adelaide Oval if the overseas match goes ahead.ย

ย

The AFL is yet to announce who Port Adelaide would play but said it had an agreement with a second club. The Power have stressed they would maintain all the benefits of a home team for the proposed match.'

ย

This just gets worse and worse! ย So they're not going to give up a home game, but will get all the financial benefits from it. ย How the [censored] does that work! ย Who would be stupid enough to go along with that? ย Yeah we'll give up a home game to play in China for zero benefit what so ever.......

Possibly the only one.

Still a wise move to make.

Hopefully we capitalise on our early foray there.

Luckily, it was the last straw for Scully after the exhibition match there.

We remind AFL of our long history with the Chinese market

We agree to go with both teams on Chinese southern flights

We agree with Ports demands on home grounds etc

We demand umpires who pay free kicks to the demons at every favourable occasion while they ย penaliseย ย Port for every discretion.. This is a way to teach the Chinese the rules.

We win the matchย

So if The PAP smears want all the money ane exposure wtf does the opposition side get apart from Jet Lag?

no doubt Dill will sign it off

IT'S A HOME GAME Port...

They the second club or they the Power? It's not really clear from this quote.ย

Edit: I have since read the article.

I hope the Dees have nothing to do with this. ย  Footy is not a global sport - get over it AFL!

imagine coming back from China and having to play the next week? ย wtf.

this is a serious competition not anย AFL legends team touring the world

Bombers would be a good fit... Nearer their suppliers.

FYI there is an oval groundย in Guangzhou that has been used for International cricket, Gaungzhou is China Southerns home base, 2 hours by bus / train from HK.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
