Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

So we've omitted one defender for what seems the likely inclusion of two (Dunn & Wagner). I imagine this is to free up Vince for some extra maturity and creativity in the middle - but hopefully to reprise his Dangerfield role on Brent. Pedo and Frost probably still competing for the one spot (Pedo with the lollies - bigger body, contested marking and greater ruck/defense versatility over forward defensive pressure) which leaves Oliver/Grimes/Stretch competing for Brayshaw's place on the pine. My guess is Oliver stays but they all offer something different. If the other premises are correct then who do we take?

We have trouble covering really tall opposition forwards we don't have a player to cover them. Brown stitched us up last time, Cloak tends to have his better days against us. Daniher has become almost a legend at bomberland from his game against us, etc..  We need a backman who can play on a real tall. While Dunn does try he is still out marked to regularly, luckily he does a lot of body work to try to keep his player out of the game.

Frost.

Changes are very disappointing. Some players who were appalling such as Kent get another game. ANB has 36 touches and 2 goals but not decent enough to even make the 25. Garland had a shocker yet actually is a good match for Waite yet is dropped.

Garland is a terrible match for Waite. Waite has also been on fire in the first two rounds. He's fast, can jump and he uses his body well. That's not the opponent for Garland.

Brown, Waite and Harvey have been the thorns in our side in the past. Will take a strong effort to beat them.

My guess is that Dunn goes to Petrie, Frost goes to Waite and McDonald goes to Brown. Would like to see Kennedy and Kent try to run with Harvey.

Not fussed about Garland being dropped, hes not the future and isnt really the present either.

Dare I say hes oneof the few left with mental scars from the dark days.

Petrie will be too tall for Dunn and Waite way too smart for Frost.

I think it will be more likely McDonald to Petrie, Dunn to Waite and Frost to Brown.

Forget Kent running with Harvey for any period of the game, he doesn't have the footy smarts nor the tank. Harvey would blow him up in the first 10 minutes.

Garland did a very good job on Waite last year. Waite gets most of his footy on the lead, which is Garland's defensive strength.

But rebound and run is the other consideration and so I expect Lumumba and Wagner to spend time on Waite and other North talls and we might have to get used to them losing some one on ones. That's the price to pay for more attacking footy.

Frost is an option but they've been playing him forward and there's been no indication that will change.

I like ANB but the 35 disposals doesn't really interest me all that much.

Any and all of Harmes, Kent, Kennedy, Bugg, Salem, Tyson, Oliver, Michie etc etc can get 30+ touches playing as an inside mid at VFL level.

ANB showed some really positive traits when he played last year but his disposal and tackling needed a lot of work. If that's still the case then let him work on it a bit more at Casey before he comes in to the AFL team whilst the guys who were picked ahead of him for a number of reasons get another chance.

That way when he comes in to the team he's got a solid bank of form to be confident about and he can hold his spot for a while. We have to get rid of this up and down cycle.

Pretty sure Dunn is only around 3cm shorter than Petrie. His body strength will be the key. You could be right with Waite, he's a tough match up and hopefully they have plan b and c ready.

Ben Brown is 200cm but from memory gets a lot of ball on a lead. He has killed us in the past....

They are all going to be difficult match ups...

... since we got rid of Fitzpatrick.

Sure, flaky at times, but the only physical match-up we had for the increasing numbers of mobile 200cm forwards. Could bite us on the bum big-time.

Unless they're seriously contemplating H on Waite.

How things have changed in a week! This time last week we were looking at our line up and thinking how can we possibly lose? This week we seem to be looking at the line up and thinking how can we possibly win?

Gotta say the changes don't inspire me, there are some players that are very lucky to be in the team but I don't think we have the depth yet to cover too many changes.

Brayshaw out isn't suprising given his well below par output last week, and Garland, well he's had a shocker of a start to the year. Placed in the leadership group he needs to do more.

Lumumba drives me nuts but I understand what he's in the team for, just as long as they can get him placing to ball to the advantage of his teammate. Salem, Kent, Vince, and Hoges need to be much better this week. Their output was very down. Salem I've been a touch disappointed with him so far this year, he hasn't been delivering with the class and poise he's capable of. As someone mentioned above I would like to see us play Hogan further up as more a deep CHF link, tracking back to then receive it in the 50 potentially. I want to se lots of movement from him, and hopefully lots of marks and goals as well.

This is a big game for us, we can't allow north to get on top of us early otherwise I feel the drop in confidence could happen quite quickly. And if Tom McDonald decides to go for a run and turn the ball over again to gift them the first goal that will happen. Please Tom, know to your limitations.

I suspect Frost, Grimes and Stretch will be the ones to miss out, but we'll see as they'll likely take two of the emergencies with them.

Will obviously have a good idea on saturday night when i see who lines up for Casey.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
