Mitch Clark - did we dodge a bullet?

so hunger gave him brain damage?

I just chose to leave the entire post alone.....

Didn't dodge a bullet. But for that foot injury, who knows. If he stayed healthy, he would be an absolute monster for us and did some incredible things. I don't care where he plays or even whether he does, but we definitely lost out here.

I feel it was more a case of common sense letting a player with a broken mind and body go than dodging a bullet.

As for Geelong, they played Russian roulette.

Fork Geelong.

Running around cherry picking as hard as they can.

Correct, just like we did with Melksham.

And now ironically we have ended up with Kennedy who was the number 10 draft pick.

No, but in a roundabout way Kennedy was what we gave up for Dawes minus Matt Jones. Oh, and that Clark bullet we dodged is now a cannon-ball sized crater at CHF.

I hope you'll be rubbing it in his face too..... Reminds me I have a smart ass relo to mock who told me Clark & Hawkins were going going to tear team's backlines apart.

Not sure they did.
Clarke caused the beginning of the end for Jonathan Brown.
Tell me this wasn't a deliberate elbow.

The way Clark would crash packs he was a hazard to the game, No wonder his injured.

Sad to see a great talent destroyed by injury and illness.

I really believe he was on the verge of something great when he came down with that debilitating Lisfranc injury. What followed was a tragedy for the player and the club.

I don't think you can say we ended up "dodging" a bullet because we went to great lengths and invested heavily in Mitch and lost out badly as a result of his long running injury and the mental problems that followed.

I hope he recovers and gets some enjoyment from the tail end of his career. He's had a pretty wretched run.

Not to mention "other Issues"... lets be frank, Bloke shafted us, got good money and up and left. But agree we sure did dodge that bullet!

At the moment, Collingwood have clearly had the most value from that trade with Varcoe playing some very good football.

If Lumumba manages to get back to a high level of fitness I believe he can offer us some of that great attacking drive out of defence.

Clark when up and going is a very good forward but he's body is shot, playing just 23 games over the last three years.

Leigh Matthews said that the Pies would get greater value out of Ben Hudson than what Melbourne would from Clarke and we all laughed at him. As we now know, Matthews might've been addressing his character more than his footballing ability.

Pretty happy now, that he takes up no space on our list. Has been ordinary at the cattery. His illness may be real but his ordinary attitude and fitness is real-er !!!  He isn't a very good AFL player now and won't be ever again. Has natural ability bigtime, but not the mind to apply it, nor a willingness to do everything that is required. Just because you are diagnosed with depression does not always mean you cannot shine at something in life. (In this household I live with someone who has made this fact, very clear.) Depression can be repetitive but also fleetingly annoying and frustrating. Telling porkies is the 1st thing you need to address. Doing something to fix things is the 2nd step. Open-ness is the 3rd step. This bloke is not tackling things in a normally advised manner. Only he can change things and it seems that wont happen. He shows classic signs of high end selfishness. We don't need that and are now in a good place with our list.

It's a tough decision

on one hand we know what clark was/is cable of , but with our current squad and  mind set I think we are better off with out him, but still wish him all the best at the cats

A few poster on BF have stated that Mitch Clark has been sacked from Geelong.  Nothing has been announced, but comments include:

"Anyway at the end of the day Clark has been fired from Geelong and Geelong is the clear loser in the trade deal as Clark has played about 10 games for us with basically no impact in any of them."

"Isn't it common knowledge yet that geelong has already sacked him and he has left the club?"

And - "This. I'm surprised it hasn't blown up more." (in response to post above)

The comments are from 3 separate Geelong supporters today.

'Mach'...any news on the Geelong front?

as for dodging a bullet, purely on the football sense we haven't had much of a win with 'H'.

Collingwood won that trade, just.

By a mile. I think we laughed off the Varcoe offer. He'd be pretty valuable for us.

Agree, Collingwood winners by a mile - Varcoe would be very good for us.

I am not 100% sure and i reckon Mach5 would have a better idea, but i reckon we were open to taking Varcoe for Clark but he wasn't keen to come to us.

There was a fair bit of talk Clark was off to Collingwood and it was nearly a done deal then it got changed to Geelong late in the case.

that does ring a bell, i could have sworn i read or heard somewhere that we were into Varcoe and he wasn't keen to come to us.

Freo dodged a bullet. Geelong gave up Varcoe who wanted out anyway. We gave up pick 12 for a bloke getting mega money and only playing 15 games in 3 seasons. Pretty sure we were hit by the bullet

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
