Funny Wagner doesn't cop the same knocks. I reckon he's good for at least one howler a game himself.

He's a pup. Tommy supposed to be top dog. Huge difference no ?

I agree Wagner has a bad kick here or there but i can deal with the odd turnover once in a while, doesnt matter who you get they are all going to turn it over at times, jones and bernie had about 5 or 6 turnovers between them in the first 5 min of the collingwood game. What I cant deal with is a turnover that has come from someone running themselves into trouble, that is what Tmac does too much.

I think Tom is harshly judged for his disposal, its not actually that bad but he seems to want to do everything under pressure when he doesnt need to. A side step in slow motion might get him past 1 opponent but another colapses in and then he kicks off balance and under pressue when he could have kicked earlier. Wagner doesnt do this, he takes the first option. 8/9 times out of 10 the first option is the best one. Took tyson all of last year to learn that, but now he has and he is one of our best every week and nobody complains about his disposal anymore and he doesnt get caught nearly as often as before.

It's often not TMacs kick itself ,as it were, but what his intent with it.i.e the reasoning behind the decisions.

He has been injured. Once fit, he is a walk up start

I'd suggest before making a comment like that, you; A) make sure you know what you're talking about, or B) do some research.

If he goes and Hurley is available, package a 1st rounder that we'd get for TMac plus our 2017 1st for Hurley. Essendon won't turn that down if Hurley wants to come to us.

Be a decent outcome, but for it to happen he has to want to go , has to want to come to us  and no other club with a better first rounder or trade can outbid us.

IMO defence ok, midfield and forwards need to perform better. T.Mc ok for me at a sensible arrangement for both parties.

Wagner is Twice the player T mac is and Three times the player O mac is!

Like him a lot!!;)

He is 22, not much younger than T-Mac who is "supposed to be a top dog" because he is a far superior player.

Some of Tom's mistakes drive me nuts, the one early against Essendon was probably one of the worst ever. But some of the commentary on here is beyond ludicrous. This guy is a young KPD who less than a year ago was in AA calculations. Sydney are rumoured to want him (and not Hurley incidentally) and I suspect almost every other club would be happy to have him.

He has faults but FMD if he isn't a required player I almost don't know who is.

What do you base this on? Please explain your system to me.

!!! + !!!!!! = !!!!!!!!!

I like Wagner a lot and have seen the following attributes in this player

1 Can put body on body

2 Has better judgment whether to punch or mark

3 Seems to have more time to dispose of the ball

4 Has less "Anxious" moments than the other two

5 Is developing into an 'Elite" reader of the ball

Yes he does have the occasional "Clanger" but for the reasons above plus my gut feel I reckong he will become an excellent player.

IMV He is much better than the other two, Get Browne from Collingwood, Continue the development of Frost as a defender and I would be very pleased about this!

2. Tom Mac has great judgement on whether to mark or punch, better than Wagner.

3. Wagner gets caught with the ball a bit because, like Tom, he takes too long to kick it.

4. Has the same.

5. No he isn't.

Wagner has started his AFL career very well, to call him twice the player that tmac is just makes all of your critics and their criticisms look correct

Hang on a minute. You think Josh Wagner is a better player than Tom McDonald?

Wagner's been in the system a year . Tmac 5

There's nearly 2 years between them to say nothing of 80 odd games.

Josh has shown more improvement in one season than has in all of his.

I'm not concerned when Wagner has the ball. He has a far better head for what to do with it. .... and he's still green, I concede !!

You replied to a comment about Brown from Collingwood, who was dropped, hence Members Wing's response.

Says it all really

He's shown more progress and aptitude for creating an attacking disposal with effect. Tom does probably 2 things well. He can mark and punch well. The roles these two play are different but given ones been around 5 mins, the other 5 seasons  I am prepared one has definitely developed more , relatively.

My eyes must be playing tricks on me. Someone on this thread said Wagner is a better player than T McDonald!!!

I think I finally need reading glasses because there is no way someone would actually type that around here.

Tommy lad has his opportunity to showcase his talent and put in for a pay rise next game.

Wants to be on his game...his A game

One is a key back and one is a back flanker.

The AFL site had a live chat on trade targets today.  According to whoever the journo was Sydney are putting a pretty big offer in front of TMac.  Interesting.

Makes sense.

Richards and Grundy are nearing the end.
Richards even talking about contemplating immediate retirement following his recent concussion.

What would the Swannies need to hand over ?

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.
