LDC - do you really think that the AFL would be concerned about this were it not for their complete addiction to the gambling industry?  They have been told, by the gambling industry to sort this out.   Nothing to do with their (non) commitment to integrity.

IF the public, and the media, were to say to the AFL "enough is enough - we will not go to / cover EssUndone games", threatening their bottom line and (their perception of) their image,  then the AFL would quickly jump to attention and do what they would do had they any intrinsic integrity, and impose meaningful sanctions against the cheats.

What continues to astound me is that no high ranking sports authority has taken the AFL to task. 

I long ago gave up any hope of Athletics Australia doing so as David Grace QC is its Chairman (and has also led the players vs AFL/ASADA/WADA/CAS campaigns.

Ditto for the Australian Sports Commission as John Wylie its Chairman is a close mate of Mike Fitzpatrick and was asked by Fitzpatrick to be the go between with Essendon in August 2013.

In short, these terribly incestuos connections have compromised clean sport in this country.

Perhaps, the most troubling of all is the position of John Wylie as the ASC has a big say on funding and sponsorship for sports.  All sports appear to have gone quiet, perhaps 'muzzled' by the fear of losing funding.

So no point expecting politicians or sports administrators to stand up for clean sport.  It is incredibly disappointing that not even IOC reps have spoken out.  eg John Coates, an internationally respected sports administrator, Susie O'Neil also highly regarded etc.

I would imagine a fair bit of sledging will happen at the RIO games in a few months!   I guess our athletes can't complain about 'being tarnished with the same brush' if their sporting bodies are not prepared to stand up and be counted when necessary!

Just read a transcript of one of Beveridges interviews where he gave his thoughts on the Essendon saga. He is a senior coach right? The below quite was one I took from the article. I take it the seminars the players receive from ASADA are not good enough 'grounding' for the Bulldogs coach. All respect lost.

"The Essendon players have been treated like a European cycling team who should know better.

"Well, no, they shouldn't know better because they had no grounding to work from."

I have said it before but my membership does not get renewed until Dill comes out and categorically says the AFL support the WADA code and any talk of the AFL leaving the WADA code is ridiculous and not worth the paper it is written on. 

I realise this hurts the club and not really the AFL but I can't bring myself to financially support a league that is effectively allowing people to condone PED use. I think the chance of the AFl walking from the WADA code is very slim but that is not due to the integrity of the WADA code, it is due to the dollars attached from the government. If there weren't any dollars attached Dill would have walked from the WADA code a few years back.

I certainly don't have any real excitement about the season that is about to start which is one we should all be hugely excited about. The thought of all and sundry going on and on about the replacement EFC players and how the club has been through such a hard time etc etc makes me sick. Certainly will not be watching or having anything to do with any EFC game for the year, even when we are playing them.

ET this was raised in this forum a couple of weeks ago and debunked as the AFL players form TAC days are provided chit tonnes of info relating to what goes in your body is your responsibility. Obviously not enough info for the Dons 34 (and most probably heaps more players who were not caught).

Anyone know what happened to the ACC investigation from the blackest day in sport press conference by the by?

What really pizzes me off is that finally as a team, as a club we might start getting somewhere and my whole enjoyment of the game is being challenged  by the very corruption of it. 

Would it have actually harmed the'brand' for the AFL to take a hard line ? If anything I think it would have strengthened it. 

But we all know what the AFL stands for

Chris, I admire your principles, but perhaps you could still buy a Melbourne FC membership but "punish" the AFL in another way, although I'm not sure how. (Perhaps don't buy a pie at the footy.) 

Would be great if someone ran out on to the ground in Essendon's first game of the year with a big syringe across the back for the cameras. They would find that

hard to police.

The effort of Mitchells (Haw) really cannot be underestimated. A great stand and something he believes in.

Actually the Premiership Team making just such a statement would be very encouraging. Beveridge is nothing.

Apologies, I just read education and training in respect to drugs is provided by the AFL themselves and the AFLPA.

By the way the AFL and Media here seem to be thumbing their noses at WADA and CAS directions, it's almost as if they are looking for excuses

to pre-empt walking away from the Codes. Would imagine discussions along these lines would be in pipelines to the USA rogue football codes

Imagine who they would put in charge of the new Watchdog.

Nail meet head. The best thing the AFL could possibly have done for the integrity and brand of the AFL is to have turned around at the start and said that ASADA has a process to follow, we will let them follow that process and we will accept what ever findings come down. Then when the players were found guilty they should also have taken the hard line and stopped trying to find ways around the code.

My thoughts exactly. Are the AFL actually testing the waters for leaving the WADA code through their compliant media buddies. The day they walk from the code is the day I do the same.
