The two highest polling and untainted players deserve to be the fairest and best. Not awarding the Brownlow means giving in to the culture introduced into the game by the machinations of the Danks of this world - something we shouldn't allow to happen. Cotchin and Mitchell deserve to share the medal.

the Danks of this world exist, & there is a place for them.  Normally tho,  these people in that area of supplements & medicines don't get a foot in the door of footy clubs; & they shouldn't, under a sound moral code of fairness in sports.

Its not Danks fault all this mess... that he supplied supplements that he had been hired to do.  the real villains here are the in-house footy people trying to get silent advantage over other clubs Via cheating with supplements not yet sanctioned for use in sport ...  to blame Dank for being invited & then hired on the books of clubs, is just looking for a scapegoat.   When its the former players & officials knowingly going down a cheating pathway,  that brought all this onto that club & others.

Jobe will hand it back rather than be stripped I think.

Bookies won't pay out unless you have your betting slip.

I heard yesterday they wont pay out at all rules are once the decision is made and all settled it ends there.

PS Rams back to LA Gorgoroth.

I think the worse crime is having the stupid name Jobe. While the majority of the culpability rests with his parents, he could have changed his name.

Having said that, I think he is a nice guy. Although I'm sick of his smart arsed father and his stupid simpering grin.

Point of order. A poster said something along the lines that a criminal didn't get a say in his/her own sentence. Not totally true. A defendant gets to make a submission prior to sentencing.

Whether he hands it back on his own accord or not doesn't really matter. It is a best & FAIREST award, and Watson played with an unfair advantage that year. Award will be stripped. Not sure what the AFL will do with it after that, I dare say they will declare it a void year, no one wins, that will cover the backside of their sponsors (betting agencies).

Agreed.

Whilst Cotchin and Mitchell should receive the medal, the potential ramifications such as the betting angencies etc would really complicate it.

Imagine if you dropped $1000 on Cotchin at the start of the season when he was at up to $50?

I know I'd be asking the question.

I am happy the didn't take it yesterday but asking him to talk to them about why he should keep it? One of the stupidest things Dill and the commission have said, and that is saying something.

Give Jobe the chance to do the right thing and hand it back himself, let him keep some pride in the matter.

Cotchin and Mitchell also deserve to get it, it is no different than the bloke who didn't get the medal in 90's due to a suspension (can't remember his name).

I certainly hope you are correct. I backed Cotchin at good odds, but it's so long ago I can't remember the exact bet. Do you really think they'll pay up, presuming Jab hands it back and it's re-awarded?

I don't think they'll have a choice but to pay up, they'll get shamed in to it otherwise. You should be able to find the bet in your bet history if it's online.

Georgiou that may be the funniest thing you say in 2016

A betting agency shamed!

Shame and betting never go in the same story

It's not as simple as saying Cotchin and Mitchell deserve the award as runners up.

If we are to follow the CAS verdict then all votes in Essendon games have now been tainted, throwing up an immeasurable number of variables that could have dictated who got votes in those Essendon fixtures, e.g. who played on which opponent, who was at their "fittest" at any particular time in the season, notably the beginning when they won 12 or so games in a row. Scott Thompson for instance could have entered the frame but it's now impossible to say whether that would have been the case.

This is a team sport with complexities outside of individual sports in a matter such as this.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
