Howdy all

A little story to clarify this thread. I am a long time Cubs fan and anyone who watches American sport would know the Cubs are the loveable losers. For anyone who follows baseball they would also know that a rookie Cubs team (with a few class vets) are taking the league by storm and are playing the Mets in the National League Championship game this Sunday.

Back to my point - I watched this video the other day and after watching it I though damn it would be good if the Dees could do something like this as well for a promotion for the 2016 season. Love or hate American sport/Media they do, do their sports coverage very well and we could actually take a leaf from their book on Media. I am not saying follow the yanks - just the media aspect.

I'm also not saying the Dees will make finals in 2016 but hell who cares - I am excited for where the Dees are going - the first time in a long time I feel we are building something good.

For anyone who'd like to watch that Cubs video - it really is worth a watch. And we (MFC) are and should be proud of our history as well. I thought it was a great montage of current and the past.

https://youtu.be/j0WImFI7av4

Wouldn't it be great to see highlight of some of the old boys, and good times mixed with the excitement for 2016. I just thought it was really good and would love to see some stuff like this on the MFC website

Just an idea on how to improve - It may not deserve its own thread but hopefully generates some discussion

A whole surge of videos like that were made by some quite skilled amateurs, during the surge of optimism in 2009.

This first one will break you heart for the irony of the hope and the players who feature. The second one is more precisely what you are talking about - the weaving of history into present. The third is similar to the second but a little more upbeat.

Melbourne Football Club - Dog Days Are Over https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fyap0IWMIg Melbourne Football Club - I and Love and You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcJR_FBpjTk Melbourne Football Club - Fly One Time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZegpPlNaG0

If I recall correctly, the author of a few of these (on youtube as MFCNOW) impressed the club so much that he was given a number 31 jumper signed by Barassi specifically for the occasion.

So, if there's anyone out there keen to make a fresh one, get to it!

Nice to hear from a fellow baseball fan! I'm a bucs fan, so naturally I'm pretty annoyed with the cubs knocking us out in the wild card game.....

One thing the cubs, mets, astros and pirate's have is an excellent farm system for AAA and AA players. All teams are on the rise due to spending great time and effort into developing talent from the ground up.

Wish your Cubbies luck in the NLCS and world series if you get there.

Wowee. That is almost pathetic. I hope the person that made that refrains from making another one until we at least make the top four, talk about premature.

A fellow Cubs fan, ripper!

I've been thinking about the similarities between the Cubs and Dees lately, because there are plenty.

Go Cubs go!

I haven't forgotten about some of the amateur work - it has been very good. Love the passion from our supporter base. it's a shame somehow we couldn't get some more of it on a regular basis.

One of my all time fav Demon media is from the 80s I think.... I was young back then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGDj6-7hy4Y What a cracker - I really wish there was more of this.... I know we haven't had much to cheer lately, but I do feel there is some good similarities of that Cubs video to the Dees now

Maybe I've just drank too much haha and forgotten how bad we were.. But again getting ahead of myself I would love to see a 2016 version of C'mon Demons' by the club would be a ripper way to start 2016 seaons

Would love to see a lot more armature and official Demon Media out there...... It's probably been done already on another thread but please keep posting Demon Hype Media

With the risk of dee-railing the thread completely - love the Cubbies

Gee the Bucs looked good all year - I was hoping they'd do well. STL, CHC and PIT all had great seasons. The Cubs baseball at the moment is the most exciting I've seen in a long long time. Wowee they are on fire

Go Cubs go!

Can't wait for Sunday game - to beat the Bucs, red birds and to win a postseason series at Wrigley has been amazing year

I wish I could get to Wrigley

Go Cubs Go

I made that video in 2009, originally it was just meant to be a highlights package of Liam Jurrah but I added in some other Melbourne moments as well and took Liam's name out of the title after he went to prison. I was overseas at the time and didn't get to see much of Melbourne so I relied on snippets of footage on YouTube and decided put them all together to music.

The "Dog Days Are Over" is a reference to the song used in the video which was popular at the time and worked well with footage that was available.

Thanks for your feedback, I can't wait to see your efforts

Don't listen to the hate Clint

They were bloody good efforts, I think so anyway.

I love a good hype video - C'mon demons is my favourite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGDj6-7hy4Y

And as I said earlier I would love to see a 2016 version of C'mon Demons

I would also love to see the type of Hype videos like the Cubs one I originally posted. So keep making the Clint. I think they're great

They were heady days in 2009. Sylvia, Morton, Jones, Mclean and Grimes all clocked 20+ disposals a game and looked like the core of a well balanced young midfield, with Clint Bartram considered one of the best young taggers around.

Watts was still an unknown and exciting forward prospect, Jurrah was sending everyone cross-eyed, and Petterd was shaping as the ideal medium forward. Even Bate looked dangerous and capable.

Rivers and Frawley were standing up as the kind of tall defenders who can win premierships - which they have both done, oddly enough.

And when those videos were made, we were on our way to the draft with 4 picks in the first round.

We finished the next season with 8 wins, one draw, and a percentage of 94.5. It really wasn't crazy to believe in a great future in October 2009.

Seriously Django has the pain of recent season just been so much that you've suppressed the trauma of watching golden promises turn to ash?

We weren't crazy, we were robbed.

Yeah... look, I'm not going to take back my comments as that is how I feel. Hindsight is a difficult thing. I probably would have been up and about with that clip when it was made, but I didn't see it then. So, the only perspective I have of it is in the now, and that's my impression of it, sorry. I'll make a clip when we are doing well and forward you a link, personally.

Agree with the thrust of the post, but at least this didn't happen.

Even in the now, todays perspective and hindsight, it's still a good uplifting clip Clint, despite what has transpired.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
