Howe is a C+ grader and Toumpas is D.

What do you expect to receive for such players ?

(For reference I consider Nathan Jones a B grader, who has had one A grade year - 2014)

Toumpas isn't worth much more than pick 50. Pick 40 if you got really lucky. And Kennedy and 29 for Howe is reasonable.

And as for the second part of the deal? That basically states Kennedy was considered more valuable than Howe.

Highlights - and that trade involving Howe and Toumpas isn't included, probably because it hasn't been signed off.

Steve Johnson will officially continue his career in 2016 after today being traded to the GWS Giants. The Giants say he will play in 2016 with the potential of playing again in 2017 should his form warrant it.

Gold Coast ruckman Zac Smith has got his wish to play at Geelong next season after the two clubs agreed to a trade today.

As part of the Smith trade, North Melbourne's Daniel Currie was traded from the Kangaroos to the Gold Coast Suns where he will continue his career next season.

Adam Treloar looks certain to be a Collingwood player next season with GWS coach Leon Cameron indicating today that the deal between the Giants and the Pies was very close to being signed.

Tom Bell will play at the Brisbane Lions next year after the Lions and the Blues agreed on a trade to see him move back to his home state next season.

Josh Walker will also play at the Lions next year after he was part of a trade that saw him and Jarrad Jansen move to the Lions in exchange for a future pick at next year's draft. As part of the Jansen/Walker trade, the Cats will receive Brisbane's third round pick at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft.

Why does it look worse like that? We lost a player who doesn't want to be with the club (which was apparent from his performances on the field) for a player who wants the chance to prove himself and a pick (68) which is worthless in what everyone considers a shallow draft.

Let it be noted I don't rate Howe or Toumpas and would have been disappointed if we re-contracted them. However on face value it appears we did not hold our nerve in that trade and look to have come out the worst of the 4 clubs. Time will tell but does appear a disappointing result.

I hate everything about this trade. Feel bad for Kennedy that he had to be a part of it.

I wonder if Toumpas' desire to go home was greater than the club's desire to get rid of him.

What have we achieved by getting rid of him at this stage? Not much when you look at the return. Very poor decision making by the club yet again

We needed speed and outside run. Our lack of those things killed us last season and cost us a few wins.

Kennedy and Melksham will give us a bit of both. Howe and Toumpas gave us neither.

I look at as #29 + #50 = #20 for Howe and Toumpas for Kennedy.

OUT: Unaccountable speccie taker & bloke who has about 10% chance of making something of himself

IN: Pacy borderline 22 depth mid/forward, pick 29, Bugg (most likely)

Really, can't see what all the whinging is about? It's not a steal, but it's solid and about fair. Not sure why everyone keeps expecting miracles to spring forth from the "war chest".

By that reasoning, we should've taken four picks in the 50s and cut away 29 altogether. Why even bother with Kennedy when we can get more points for late picks?
