CBDees 3,167 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Why are the first two names i think of when it comes to drafting KPF'S early are Luke Molan and Lucas Cook? If Charlie Curnow is available at 6 we'll take him. Otherwise expect us to draft a midfielder like Mathieson, Tucker, Balic etc. Remember we are pick 7. Quote

DeeSpencer 26,672 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Do we need Weideman, when we have King, King should be ready in 12 months, when will the weed be ready ? Both could impact next year or take 5 years, you never know with big blokes. My main concern on Weideman is he looks like a big tall but not a 2nd ruck. So if you have him, Hogan and a 2nd ruck in a forward line how will they work together? North played 3 talls this year but Waite, Petrie and Brown are all very mobile and they didn't need a great 2nd ruck given Goldy can do so much. If our future plans right now are the 2 Max's ruck combination and Hogan, then that would be better complimented with a 3rd tall like Curnow than a 197cm player. 1 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,853 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 weideman's ceiling is higher than any of the other supposed tall 'forwards'. both francis and curnow are more third talls - and curnow is more a mid-forward and francis more a defender. weideman and burton are genuine key forwards, while the twins are more ruck-forwards. i really hope we get this kid. 3 Quote
dazzledavey36 56,318 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I think quite obvious that Weideman if still available is a must pick at 7. Need another big key forward because lets be honest Hogan will eventually return back home to WA at some point in his career, so id rather stock up on a talented key forward now while we have the chance. Sam Skinner is another i wouldn't mind at one of our later picks.. 197cm key forward or back who was MVP for Vic Country in the under 16s. Did his knee this year but should be right for the start of pre season. Quote
Redleg 42,152 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 With Fletcher and Carlisle gone I think the Bombers will be keen to grab a big forward to help Joe, as Hurley and Hooker will probably fill the defensive spots. Therefore unless they rate someone higher, i don't see him slipping to us. If somehow Francis and Weideman are there at GC pick, I think they will take Francis. Anyway who really knows? Quote

Hogan will stay at Melbourne over Freo because it will be a career path choice between emulating Norm Smith or Matthew Richardson. (For the record, Richardson has played in just three finals, for one win, Norm Smith played in 16, for 10 wins, 1 draw, 5 losses, including a triple-premiership which he was a decisive factor in. Just in case anyone forgets!) As for the complex issue of who fits where, personally I wouldn't mind a structure of 2xCHF and one resting ruckman at FF. I think the 'modern game' demands a workrate from CHF that is more than any one player can contribute. By alternating who goes for the searching lead and who lurks menacingly in and out of the forward 50, both CHFs are always offering a target while also allowing for variation in the intensity of effort/comparative rest. I think it would be very good, especially for a young team, to have certainty that there will always be someone there to kick to when they look up. 1 Quote
DemonLad5 1,642 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I am getting pretty nervous that Te bombers will snap up Weideman and Francis at 4 & 5, GC take Curnow at 6. No key forwards left. Hopefully they take curnow and Francis and the Suns take a midfielder Quote
rpfc 29,024 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 As a club, we shouldn't make decisions based on what a player may or may not do in 2 years time. Let's just fake some confidence in ourselves shall we? 4 Quote

But according to my old man, Sam's Grandfather was a very, very good centreman. Sam should fill out, both his old man and Grandfather were stocky blokes. He'd be a good pick up for us, I think he'll be a good player. Quote

"a maybe, or maybe not", at this stage, & if he does a knee, or something? Watt then? .... what if Hogan gets out for a year, or more??? or forever. We need a key forward specialist, as a partner for Hogan, & preferably a rough tough one, who can also be like a clark keating as well, & smash-in in the ruck, for our future. 1 Quote

CBDees 3,167 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 100% sure that the Suns would snap up Curnow That would leave us with neither Curnow or Weideman (contrary to every single Phantom draft that is going around). Quote
mog 58 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 If Weideman, Curnow, and Francis are gone at pick 7 would Ryan Burton be worth taking or would that be a bit high? All Australian as a bottom-ager before missing this year with broken leg. Before his broken leg last year, he would have been rated higher then those 3. 1 Quote

CBDees 3,167 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 100% sure that the Suns would snap up Curnow Don't you think that our FD discussed this at length when GC agreed to exchange picks 3 and 6? I am sure that we came to an understanding as to who we both were going to target. (Not so confident about Essendon playing ball though!) 2 Quote

I am sure that we came to an understanding as to who we both were going to target. (Not so confident about Essendon playing ball though!) They would have spoken about it, but at the time it wouldn't have had too much meaning given we only knew about pick 10 at the time. I don't think upgrading to pick 7 was planned at that stage, so who GC took at pick 6 wouldn't really have been too much of a worry (as they could go at pick 7/8/9 anyway, before they got to our pick) Quote
The Great Pretender 480 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Not sure if anybody has considered this but Kieren Collins is a fair sized unit and a strong key position defender who some believe is not that far behind Weitering. I don't believe Essendon will pass over Weideman if we take a mid with pick 3. Collins might well be the player to go for with 7. 1 Quote
