Must this turn into a thread about the simple minded fools who pathetically booed every touch from Goodes this year. Yeah Adam did many sniper like acts on field and dived like a North player at other times, but the booing had nothing to do with that.

I haven't moved any goal posts...You are guessing what his career might have been.

I am stating that Football is the reason Goodes is known & why he has a profile.

That is a fact.

I never booed the man..but i do not agree with Sports People being given such high awards

This award should be for People who save lives or in the case of science take life to another level.

I didn't say it to start an argument..it's my opinion & always has been

But you keep on kicking and screaming coz that's what you do best

No, you're actually guessing by saying he wouldn't have done the things he did to earn AOTY if he hadn't been a footballer.

If you don't think the things he has done for the indigenous community and young people are worth recognition then you really are a man with little vision and understanding.

You're not dealing in facts mate, saying something is a fact doesn't make it one, and THAT is a fact.

Why are we even discussing Goodes here on /in a MELBOURNE Board ?

we need a General AFL board or similar I suggest for all the stuff that ISNT Melbourne..and isnt about trade

I for one am sick to death of reading about this bloke. I know I dont have to ..and thats easier if not here..just saying

think the headline may be misleading, cards

The dual Brownlow Medal winner has always avoided the limelight, but his choice to avoid the procession appears to have been driven by the prospect of being booed again.

of course it may be true, but it's not quoting goodes at this stage. typical media headlining

ah righto, I did skim it and missed that bit.

You are unbelievable.

I am not guessing ANYTHING. ...Adam Goodes became famous because of football

The rest followed.

He has a profile because of Sport. Whatever else has followed

You are absolutely guessing by saying he wouldn't have done the things for the community that he has unless he played football. What world do you live in mate?

Plenty of people who aren't famous or don't play football do valuable community work, and plenty of non-AFL stars have been AOTY.

FMD.

Reality is this. Adam Goodes became famous because he played Football at the highest level, from there doors have opened. But the doors opened because he played football. That is what ACTUALLY happened.

You Stiue. Not me are dreaming of Sliding Doors

And don't call me mate. It is insulting

WYL. You are playing sliding doors mate, not me. You're saying he would never have done these things without playing football. Wow... The world would be struggling if you had to be an AFL star before you could do anything good for the community. You are seriously thick MATE.

It's funny though, you would have thought other AFL legends would have won AOTY too if all it took was being good at footy... Juddy should give them a call and demand his.

Flat. Out. Racist.

Now I know youre full of it..the classic response to anything requiring a modicum of intelligence and thought as to what often goes on in the real world. Also to the 'nature of AOTY"

If thats all you have youre a first class buffoon !!

Rubbish. Without the football career he would have had even more time to devote to his other work, might have been Australian Of The Century then...

But that's beside the fact that you're trying to move the goal posts while you continue to (deliberately?) miss the basic point that the award was nothing to do with football, not even one bit.

But feel free to just ignore facts and keep booing, you're in good company there.

You sure can destroy a thread Edited by Middymalt

Amazing isn't it. Hodge is a sniper, with multiple reports. Whilst on his latest suspension he drinks and drives, putting the community at risk. Cops a few boos but he's a good bloke and normal transmission resumes

Agree binman. You only have to look at this to realise there are contradictory standards. No fault of Hodge's, but him being white gives him a 'real bloke' free pass in respect to this behaviour. Sadly, Australia is full of people who can't see the wood for the trees.

If you are right in this then can you answer me this, why don't people like Goodes, and why did the Booing intensify markedly with every instance of him speaking up about Indigenous issues to the point that he could not go near the ball without being booed? This was a level of booing not seen before, nothing has come close, why and what motivated it?

Because people made a song and dance about him being booed. They told the crowd not to boo so its hardly surprising that has was booed.

The two sides of why Goodes gets booed has been covered ad nauseam in previous threads.

This thread has run its course so as its opener, may I suggest it is closed.

That explains why it continued and I agree, but it wasn't shadows they were reporting, it was loud continued booing at all venues in all games whenever he went near the ball before the Media Shtstorm erupted. Why did that occur?

I've been pretty shocked by some of the things coming out of the American Republican candidates this week, but here, we're in another league.

Did you actually think through what you just wrote?

Sad reflection on the state of ignorance within this country !

With sadness, may I ask the moderators to close the thread.

Any tribute to Goodes is sinking in the mire of idiots who think the booing didn't have a strong element of racial prejudice, and the idiots who think that any criticism of Goodes is inherently racist.

Everyone is so excited to be sniping at the real or imagined positions of other people and yell 'gotcha', very few have felt time to properly organise their own thoughts.

What a miserable social and political discourse we have in this country.

Adam Goodes is now to some, but will truly come to historically represent the most iconic figure in Australian Rules Football since Tom Wills as the nominated creator of the game.

As a man of both Indigenous and Colonial heritage, in a game which by many is considered to have some roots in the Indigenous game of Marngrook filtered through a British sporting awareness, he perfectly harmonised those two influences.

As the figurehead of all that is remarkable about the percentage over-representation (~ 8 times) of indigenous players in our only indigenous national sport, he was twice awarded the best and fairest player in the land. As some have stated here, he was arguably the perfect fit for our game, and the perfect example of an indigenous talent. Skill, size, strength, speed, endurance, and durability, with a mercurial awareness and an inspirational influence on his teammates, he played for and captained the first club of the modern era, The Sydney Swans. A club from the birthplace of the game, the first to take the premier competition to the whole nation, he won two premierships with that pioneering club, and after decades without the ultimate prize.

He remained a one club player, which is still and will remain a measure of loyalty despite growing commercialisation.

He was awarded Australian Of The Year for everything that he unconsciously represents (sorry stuie, but footy is at the heart of his award, and rightfully so) and has chosen to represent.

Make no mistake, Adam Goodes is monumental to and exemplary of everything that this game is, and strives to be.

It's our privilege that we saw him play and create history.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
