Trade period is supposed to be exciting?

It's what us Demons supporters usually look forward to from round one at half time onwards. This year the anticipation began after round two, so it should reach fever pitch early next week.

Only 1 week to go thank god.

I thought Nov 16 was a little ways off

November 16?

What happens then?

CAS

The reason I suggested next years draft was that it would be subject to the WADA findings and next year hopefully it will be a later pick than 25.

Its hard enough for clubs to pick talent at 17yo that will become AFL regulars. Its harder by some magnitude to do that at 16yo. Much greater drafting risk IMO

jnrmac, they don't have to rate 16yo's what you trade is a pick in the next years draft. All picks in any draft are a lottery and you don't know who is available until it is your turn to pick anyway.

Can't be bothered going through the 57 pages (sorry), but is Melksham out of contract?

If so, and Essendon what to be royal pricks about doing a trade (even if they aren't acting in such a manner), should we just totally shaft them and tell Jakey to go to the PSD? From memory he would nominate his asking price, so that would rule out any club before us, meaning we would get him for no cost other than his contract.

And for the CAS/ASADA/WADA junkies out there, is the PSD held before or after the CAS hearing?

Yep out of contract.

Yep out of contract.

Thanks Azz.

Not sure about anyone else, but it would give me great pleasure if we did what I suggested above. Although we do owe them a favour for giving Neeld a job...

As one of those 'junkies' the CAS hearing starts Nov 16 but most unlikely the verdict will be known before the psd (Dec 3).

So it is still 'buyer beware''

It works just like the AFL Draft, picks starting from the bottom placed clubs to the top.

The benefit of finishing low is that if an out of contract player wants to move then you can avoid having to trade for them if your confident that no other team will pick them up first.

Basically Carlton can get anyone that is out of contract and offer nothing to a players current club if a player wants to go to Carlton.

So you take a gamble that noone will pick them up, surely if noone picks them up it rings alarm bells if no deal has been do with the clubs ahead of you in the draft.

The Age reporting the deal is done for pick 25!

Can't believe we rolled over.

At some point we need to take a stand during Trade week and show some mettle and play hardball otherwise we will always be seen as suckers and wimps.

Trade Radio are saying it is done in principle but there is still a possibility we are getting something back in return

Trade Radio just said something else will be coming back our way also.

Jesus Christ I hope so! Pick 25 for Melksham is way overs. Hopefully we can pick up a third rounder to use on Bugg.

OCTOBER 15, 1.55pm: DEAL DONE - MELKSHAM A DEMON

Reports coming through the paperwork has been lodged that will send Essendon's Jake Melksham to Melbourne for a second-round pick.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
