WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

Read this type of thing every year, you are kidding yourself if you think it's a hasty decision. Fitz is not steak knives, he has zero value trade wise.

So what do you think of a straight swap (without steak knives)?

I like the straight swap CB, i would be delighted if the Dons accepted Dawes for Melksham, would do that deal in a heartbeat

I would be delighted if ANYBODY accepts Dawes for anything.

The Afl is the inside word prosiding over its tribunial who issue the penalty, in gillins words the players have gone through enough so no suspension required . What a joke .

this is what I've been saying from day dot. its not the players the AFL & ASADA/WADA are after; but those who brought the shame into the game... They,,, have their man.

Can we give them Terlich and M.Jones for him?

Can I ask a question that may have been asked by others earlier but i have not read it, what are we doing going after a c grade mid who may not play at all next year if WADA come down hard. What if we give up a player and get a bloke that cannot play. Isn't this fraught with danger??

you are not the first poster to point out the elephant in the room

as for skill rating, different posters seem to rate him anywhere from c- to b

Yeah, it isn't a good idea. Poor trading IMO.

I would like clarification from AFL or our club as to the ramifications on taking a player being investigated by WADA. We could potentially be the laughing stock of the comp (again) if we put all our eggs into the melksham basket and he can't even play. Meanwhile toumpas and wines help port back to the finals. It would be oh so Melbourne if that were to happen

Well, we have had experience with Hogan and Petracca who sat out a year before playing for the Dees... maybe they see a benefit in securing him now rather than risk his going elsewhere?

having a laugh arnt you? He is hardly a sought after player

I actually don't have any thoughts about him one way of the other... if we take him, fine... if we don't take him, fine. I know he has performed quite well against us in the past and I would not be at all surprised if he was on the radar of other clubs (that's something both you and I have no knowledge of). I suppose we will know more over the coming weeks.

Yes HT but we are in need of improving our list quickly. Unlike other clubs, we arnt looking to add list depth players. This is Roos' last year and the aim is finals in 2016. You don't give up a pick 4 who has essentially had three years on the list to get an average 24 year old who may not play a game next year

I'll say it again. We must have received word from WADA or the AFL that stipulates he won't receive a ban. Or at least, that it won't occur during the season.

you don't seriously believe that do you?

the case is a re-trial from scratch and hasn't even commenced

Not to mention its completely out of AFL jurisdiction and free of their corrupt influence

All the AFL can do here is offer some kind of relief in terms of allowing us to add a player at a later date. Though hard to see how useful that could be, given that it could easily be February before we/they get final verdicts.

If Melksham were suspended, and we could add to the list, I have the perfect proposition for a last-minute call-up: Daniel Cross.

AFL site is talking about us doing a three-way with Port and the Bombers. We give up Toumpas and get Melksham. I'd probably call that a good deal depending on the WADA outcome.

My father in law is a mad Essendon man, and as a result I have had to sit through many essendon games on TV. I simply don't understand why we are going to fork out $$$ for Melksham. He isn't the player we are looking for, and a second rounder or Toumpas to then bring in melksham at 400k for 4 years isn't making us any better. Maddening!

Toumpas for... Melksham?

Uh... yeah, I'd rather take a punt on Toumpas coming good.

After speaking to him my impression was that the deal is already done and I expect that he'll be signed as soon as trade week officially opens. This gives me comfort knowing the club is currently chasing other unknown targets.

So please GET AROUND HIM!

By all means he must prove himself and earn the respect of the club and its fans, however he shouldn't arrive with any negative connotations derived from the Essenscum supporter base.

Edited by ignition.

What if Worsfold likes him and convices him to stay please.

Toumpas is a bust , even if melksham is suspended for a year he will have more upside , the guy can play and has a couple ahead of him at the bombers . We need some players who can finish and he is one that can hit up lace out. Toumpas has played a good game or 2 this year and I wish him all the best at Port.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
