WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

Featured Replies

Four years should be enough for him to cut his teeth in a good team.

Sure needs it.

Makes Gary Busey look like he has microdontia.

The info about Melksham's contract was probably leaked to the media by Melksham's agent.

Or Essendon.

Or Essendon.

I'm surprised they even have a record of his contract

Was there significant criticism of Bernie Vince when we traded for him? Can't remember.

I was doing cart wheels when we got Vince for pick 23 because I knew it was essentially a straight swap of Sylvia for Vince

Melksham isn't anywhere near the same league as Vince. The ground his league plays on isn't even in the same CITY as Vince's league. When we got Vince the consensus was that we'd done really well out of the Sylvia pick and he was older but a significant upgrade. That has proven to be very much the case. Melksham has so many more questions over him, his inconsistent form, poor decision-making, WADA case... It's just a really dodgy move to trade for him.

Why do we all think he's a turnover merchant? 5th for effective disposals at 81.5%. Way ahead of of a lot of others including Watts who we're all convinced uses the ball well.

I feel like I have this conversation every week on Demonland. The disposal efficiency stat is rubbish. I'm using my eyes and I've seen enough of Melksham to know he turns it over too much. He might have some attributes that our FD think they can work with though.

I'm guessing we're just trying to improve our depth players, but it's one hell of a depth player contract.

He's an improvement on the players we delisted today, that I'm certain of.

I think Roosy and PJ opened the door on this one, RE: members/supporters emailing them. In a multi-million dollar organisation, I find it staggering that they take the time to respond to these emails personally. Initially, I thought it was amazing supporter engagement, then I realised it'd go down hill pretty quickly and a couple of weeks ago it blew up in Roosy's face. Don't read the bloody emails. Just stop.

Anyway... Jake Melksham.

He's better than Toumpas and Watts not that that is saying much. At least he has some [censored] about him

The stats he quoted were for Grimes. Not Melksham

Melksham's are much worse than Grimes.

Not really a fair comparison, since as a general rule defenders have a much better disposal efficiency than midfielders.

If you don't believe me check this out: http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_rankings?year=2015&rt=LT&st=EP

Top ranking mids that I could find:

80.4% - Ryan Griffen (and he's 78th overall on footywire, 108th on AFL.com.au).

78.1% - Gary Ablett Jnr

76.7% - David Zaharakis

76.6% - Brendan Goddard

76.4% - Pendlebury

76.0% - Lachie Neale

75.4% - Callan Ward

Some notable low efficiency mids:

69.3% - Fyfe

69.2% - Selwood

68.1% - Luke Parker

66.3% - Marc Murphy

63.1% - Trent Cotchin

62.1% - Dion Prestia

58.6% - Jack Ziebell

It makes sense that a defender who is usually calmly picking out a target with relatively low defensive pressure would be more effective than an inside midfielder who is digging the ball out at stoppage and throwing it on his boot roughly in the direction of goal.

I haven't watched the Bummers enough to know where Melksham plays (inside mid? outside mid? forward?) but his disposal is average. Of his 16.4 disposals, 10.4 are uncontested and 5.9 are contested.

Roos is pure class. Can't believe people are emailing him over a trade that hasn't even happened yet. Although I'm not sold on Melksham, if we get him for a reasonable deal (3rd round pick, maybe an exchange with Howe) then I don't see any problems with it. With guys like Trengove, Petracca, Frost and Kent (plus hopefully a Prestia) pushing for selection next year Melksham way not even be in our best 22. With Melksham, we are trading for depth, not starting 22 players.

I agree with everything you said bar the Howe exchange. Howe is a crowd seller and does things knowone else in the competition can do. Yes he also needs improving on his defensive game and work rate but he is way above Melksham. Would be total disaster if he was anywhere near the Melksham trade. I think he is going up to the sunshine state though, a reasonable deal would be straight swap with Redden or even Aish plus a draft pick also guys don't count Aish out of Melbourne ..... If we get Aish then surely Toumpas is out the door. I can't see room for both of them in the team.

Not necessarily gone but Toump would have to fight like never before for a spot in the team could be good thing.

I am actually surprised Demonland has not been all over Aish yet. It's very low down regarding him.

I would do the Aish for Howe in a heartbeat.

Ash...best crowd-pleaser is a WIN

Aerial acrobatics are just marvee..and yes a great spectacle. Rather he didnt fluff the next action so much..just saying.

Toump already has to fight for a spot in the team and hasn't been able to cement his place. Not sure how more competition will help his cause...it's not like he's being gifted games on a weekly basis.

Do you have some inside info on Aish?

Isn't Aish similar to Billy Stretch? I haven't seen Aish do anything that I can recall. He is small and I don't think you can have too many like him. We are also rumoured to be after Hrovat, another small mid. We have another in JV, though he is an inside mid and Aish and Stretch are outside ones.

Anyway we will see what happens.

Let's just wait and see how this plays out.

Toump + 2nd rounder for Aish + 3rd rounder. Would you guys do that?

Aish doesn't interest me anymore. Want competitors!

Four years for this pissant.. We're getting a dislike button on demonland yeah?

Essendon want Howe & a 2nd rounder for him. Why bother trying to trade with them they want to screw you over. Besides Melksham is a vanilla midfielder and I prefer chocolate.

Ah, I see. Thanks mate. Well, both of them are turn over merchants and horrible decision makers.

Toump + 2nd rounder for Aish + 3rd rounder. Would you guys do that?

No. I think I'd probably prefer Toumpas, but if I was to do the trade I'd want the same secondary pick back. They've both shown about as much as each other.

Was there significant criticism of Bernie Vince when we traded for him? Can't remember.

I think the criticism was over the 4 year contract from memory.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
