I actually thought OMac's decision making was a bit iffy and reminiscent of his brother at times. Just saying, just saying!

He's still tracking well.

grimes i worry about. Michie seemed depressed.

Thought Michie earned himself another chance to play after today's game, as well as the other few weeks. Better disposal than our other depth players anyway.

I have Michie at the top of the list of NQR Imports. The only issue is his inability to score, but he does get a lot of assists so that's not a huge issue.

I think newton is more dangerous imo.

Different types. Michie is good in and under and I think his use by hand is very good. Haven't seen him turn it over too often lately.

Newton is a good defensive forward who knows where the goals are. Too slow slow for a purely midfield role IMO.

Is it just me or does Salem look like he is going to be our best player in 24 months time? Has an aura about him that the classier players in the comp have. Just something about him.

It's just you. I think Viney will hold that place.

No, it's not just you

Excellent summary but the Grimes criticism is plain wrong . Sure he makes disposal clangers but this can be magnified in supporters' minds by his often prolific number of possessions .

Yep 24 possessions, a goal, 8 marks, 3 clangers with 110 DT points. Not bad.

Some people focus too heavily on him and just wait for him to make an error, confirmation bias.

'joeboy' - a good read...

Thanks for the entertaining read mate, always the first post I look to after the game.

The thing is, these clangers are noticed more because they are often so bad when he does make it. I can recall two or three that resulted in opposition scores and that's the big issue. Grimes sums up Melbourne at the moment, does some really good things and wants to compete and then all of a sudden will have.a lazy/poor skill execution and then we get put to the sword.

His form since injury has been solid and has put himself in the top 30 at the club to be picked week in week out.

Certainly up there, but Viney, Brayshaw, Hogan and maybe even Harmes will be up there with him.....and of course there us the other Christian yet to debut. All have 'that aura' :-)

Grimes' decision making was horrid but he provided great drive and kicked a wonderful goal at a pivotal moment.

He's a good club man and depth player. Can't imagine he'd have much value on the marker. He should remain for that reason.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
