The way you come back from being five goals down is when your forwards kick goals.

No one is saying he played the perfect match, most agree the first half was very poor; but he worked his way into the match in the second half and kicked goals when the match was still there to be won.

In the first half Gawn got smashed, Hogan was ineffectual, Jones was average, Garlett went missing and Pederson was poor. Yes and so was Watts. Yet Watts was the only one of those players who markedly improved their performance in the second half.  A bit of balance would not go astray.

I must say I was a bit apprehensive seeing JW5 taking center ruck duties bit I was very pleasantly surprised.   

Pone of his best games - and I know the knockers will say "maybe....but against who?"

I like the idea of using Jack Watts in the ruck. He has very good timing and does a good job in the centre bounces. We obviously need to improvise a bit around the ground with a third man up occasionally, but we can plan for this with Tyson, Vince and Petracca. And having one less tall also adds to our defensive pressure in the forward line.

He didn't use his body enough in the marking contests in the first half, but I think when he went into the ruck, he was more physical and he needed to be. I agree. I think it was one of his better games too.

    Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations.
