Yep - this will make us a top 4 team.

Terlich hasn't even played a senior game this year, McKenzie has played one or two - but we've still been hammered by GWS, Sydney, Hawthorn and Port.

Clearly fair to put the blame squarely at these players who've not even played in some of those games.

If they can't break into a team that struggles to win more than 4 games do you think they're worth keeping then?

If Jamar retires is Jones eligible for the veterans list ?

What a spud... these players are all gone and Casey list cloggers. It frees up room for 6-7 players from under 18s and Available players from other clubs

Grimes dropped again, who'd want him and what would we get?

To be honest we all thought we had a player when we drafted him. He was Vic Metro captain but for whatever reason you choose to believe he is clearly not part of the coaching groups plans. Yes he's contracted for next year but as we know Goodwin will be part of list management discussions so he doesn't have the luxury of the new coach coming in.

Get over the fact he's gone and think about what we can get.

Fourth round pick. At best.

He's more value to us as a depth player than as trade bait, as at least we know what we will get from him and he's better than our current depth players.

Firstly how much is left on his contract has to be a factor. Secondly is there another VB out there.

Interesting discussion trading Grimes. He is probably the best depth player we have, and appears to be a great clubman. A 4th round pick is about the right currency at the moment, in what has been said to be a shallow draft I would think Grimes is worth keeping over a 4th round pick. Doubt Grimes is in our top 10 paid so there is no salary benefit moving him on.

Yes great idea. As a club with very few leaders I think it would be a fantastic idea to delist the few we have. Like James McDonald, that ended well.

Our leaders aren't always the ones to stand up but they have been great servants of the club throughout the years and deserve a bit more respect than you are currently giving them (Dawes, cross and Lumumba are all recent additions to the club but you'd have to say they've given their all especially cross),

great servants

Turn it up

The last 10 seasons have been an utter disgrace

All depends on front loading. Would love to know who's getting paid what.....

All comes down to what he's on, if he's on 350-400 ( purely a guess as he was captain and "had potential", because I'm stuffed if I know how we even spend 92.5% of the cap) we need to offload him. Can't have a depth player chewing up that much coin.

I have it on reasonable authority that the Doggies will make an offer for Fitzpatrick. The fact that he's been playing in the backline will only add to his value to them.

I've also kind of been wondering about Kreuzer. Spencer and Gawn are both being given the chance to show that they have what it takes, but if they fail we're going to be hunting for a ruck in that sort of age bracket. He's had massive issues with injuries, but when he's fit and in form he's pretty decent. I just have a feeling we might be able to get him for a reasonable price. It's obviously a gamble given how fragile he is, but it could be an answer to our ruck succession problems and I don't know how many others could be on the market who would be better options.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of Riley or Michie gets the chop. Roos will have had two years to assess these guys and along with Newton we have three similarly one-paced players. I think Michie might be in trouble.

I think Michie and Riley add good depth until the likes of Petracca and Brayshaw really start to hit their straps.

Infact personally i think Viv has been very stiff now to play alot more games this year..

Talking to a few at Casey yesterday and this was the sentiment expressed time and again. He is just not flashy but gets the job done. Most could not work out why he gets the flick first after being assigned the better players when he is in the team. If they pick him to take Fyfe one week then drop him the next only to bring him back in to take Mitchell what is their thinking. Does not make a lot of sense, either he is good enough to take these great players and reduce their influence or he is not. They are certainly trying to build him into a tagger. Completely shut down Dwyer yesterday after he got away to a great start (2 goals in the 1st Qtr but not a touch in the second). Had no impact after the first qtr. Viv kicked a great goal and had a hand in a couple more.

I've never seen Viv Michie impact a contest or win a hard ball.

VFL standard only.

And Jack Watts has? Over 100 games and we are dtill crying out for him to win one bloody hard ball. Going by that assessment Watts s

Is VFL standard only.

And its obvious you don't watch Viv play at all. Go back to the Richmond game and you will see Viv win numerous of ones on ones and impact the contest hard. Viv is a good player but is getting hard done by the Selection committee.

I shake my head again when Viv gets dropped after one game yet softcocks like Watts and Howe are given a fair go after weeks of horrible performance.

I watch all players. Mitchie is a good, ordinary player. Hardly impacts.

Of course they want Fitzy as they can see his potential strengths and want him in their team rather than against them. If you knew that there was a guy out there capable of restricting your $7Million prize full forward to one solitary handball in a game of football, surely you would want him in your side. It is a shame that more Demonlanders cannot see the immense potential of a 200cm player like this (who is also capable of kicking goals and assisting in the ruck)!

The question is what will we get for him? I'd be asking for no less than their 2nd round pick (30ish) as we have developed him, there is plenty of upside and he is tall and quick. Maybe they have a mid they could trade us.

Geelong have screwed sides by paying overs for Stanley. Knowing now what we have seen with Mumford, Jacobs, etc tall guys 196+ who have shown they are competent will be going for a higher price than the 3rd round they used to go for.

In saying all this I want to keep Fitzpatrick - too much upside to get rid of him.

DD you are so blinkered against Watts that you wouldn't even acknowledge it if he got a hard ball. Watts is one of the most elite users of the ball when he gets posession and is responsible for more goal assists (and goals) than anybody else on our list. I always know that something positive is going to develop when Watts gets the ball in the same way that I do with Garlett and, before that, Jurrah.

We have got enough players that can get the hard ball and it will improve even moreso when Petracca and Trengrove come on stream next year, joining Brayshaw, vandemBerg, Riley, Jones, Hogan etc. Watts was never recruited as an inside midfielder so let's appreciate him for his set of skills. His teammates are always supportive of him, a far cry from many Demonlanders who refuse to move on because we drafted him instead of Nic Nat. It is the same arguments that the same people throw up against Toumpas vs. Wines.

Blicavs

With regards to Michie/Newton/Riley and the like. I think it's only fair that for the remainder of the season they are given a block of games to show their wares similar to Spencer/Gawn rather then in - out - in - out. Other players have been given years all be it under different coaches.

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
