True.

But the three players taken before Toumpas gave hardly set the world on fire either...

Love watching the doggies this year- they have drafted very, very well.

if not for the broken leg stringer would have been top 2

4 Jimmy Toumpas Woodville-West Torrens SANFL Melbourne

5 Jake Stringer Bendigo Pioneers TAC Cup Western Bulldogs

6 Jackson Macrae Oakleigh Chargers TAC Cup Western Bulldogs

7 Oliver Wines Bendigo Pioneers TAC Cup Port Adelaide

The Doggies absolutely smashed those back to back picks after we took the Toump.

Really hope Toump can start to show something tonight. Those 3 guys we passed on and taken right after us are all freaks

The above scenario has happened hundreds of other times for the past 30 years. Often a number of the better players from any given draft are scattered all over the place.

It will happen again and again no matter how much we pay the recruiters. Expecting perfect results from a far from perfect system is unrealistic to say the least. Trying to project how good these draftees will be 3-5 years down the track is fraught with danger (as we've found out)

Can't see Hardwick seeing out the year

Can't see Hardwick seeing out the year

Didn't you hear? According to Hardwick the Toiges can beat anyone.

Must be strategic, giving the other teams a false sense of security then boom!

Saints and Bulldogs have both overtaken us. Obviously the Doggies have, but the Saints have shown plenty this year. Last two weeks they've been great.

Great win by the Saints. Leaped over us now. Better percentage. If we lose tonight our % could fall to 70% range.

The Hawks clash strip is awful, looks like a black shirt someone has vomited down the front of.

The ovehelming signature characteristic of this season so far has been big momentum swings. No early big lead is safe. Somehow when being pumped we haven't been able to join the comeback party yet.

Imagine this board if we had done what the Dogs did today. Meltdown!!!

Have you forgotten the GWS game already?

Fair point! But Dogs were much further in front and meant to be the real deal after beating Sydney. Back to earth for them.

We were 27 up at half time against GWS. They beat us by 45. 72 point turnaround. Would be 78 if we count the goal they got just before halftime. That was real bad.

St Kilda's comeback is not good for our PR. Add them to the list of clubs people will say we should be around the level of but have 'gone past us'.

Of course, such comments are based on one win, against another side in the group of clubs who have supposedly 'gone past us' but couldn't beat St Kilda.

I'd personally put it down to the ups and downs of being a lesser club, but I guess 'gone past us' also works.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
