Not surprised by his decision to focus on footy.

It does, however, allow the media to speculate about it ad nauseum, and for posters on here to take off their jocks so everyone can sh*t in them about the situation. Plenty on here will have their mental health tested by this.

There's still 2 yrs to go on his contract. It's gunna be a long 2 yrs if this shitz is starting now.

This thread will be at 1000 pages by the end of the 2 yrs!

Hogan said on Foxtel that signing is an option but he has plenty of time.

If he was out of contract next year I would be concerned, but he still has 2 years FFS.

His contract status is a non issue right now.

He will kick 70 goals this season and in summer of 2016 he will be sign at 1.5 mil per year for many years. With the Dees of course.

Interesting timing to the Hogan extension discussion from the MFC, its as if they are purposefully indicating Hogans extended tenure to help attract and entice other prospective players to come to the MFC...

Wonder who they are? :)

We have to own the city of Melbourne and the club made a great job of the launch yesterday.

Similarly we have to make melbourne a destination so that Jesse and others want to stay and gun players from other clubs will want to come to us. The reality is we haven't been able to attract the Dangerfield's of the comp to Melbourne. Success, a high profile in melbourne and and a great group of core home-grown talent might get us there.

Its no 5 minute fix but like most things PJ does it is a long term sound strategy being built piece by piece. People ridiculed Glen Bartlett with his New York Yankees talk but the idea is the right one. We owned the town yesterday and we need to do it on a more consistent basis. We need to own it during footy season and there is no quick fix.

There has been a shift in the narrative.

A month ago indications were strong from Jesse and the club of an extension happening over summer.

Now it seems that won't happen.

The words 'contract on hold', or 'wait and see' are like a stick of dynamite to supporters and the press.

Jesse has every right to wait.

We just need to enjoy him and be patient.

Nonetheless, the shift in the narrative is the worrying bit.

The narrative hasn't changed. There was never a "strong" indication that Jesse would sign an extension. Rather, the narrative was that we've opened up discussions with him about the possibility of an extension. One step at a time my friend.

We have to own the city of Melbourne and ........

....transfer it to Hogan for a 12 year deal.

Hogan's answers re contract interesting though ... Inferred now footy is back for another season, all talks on hold ...

Strong indication from Hogan was there will be no deal either before or during 2016 season ... Just wants to play ...

I'm ok with this, given he signed an extension 12 months ago. Let him play next year and address it later next season.

Yep, sit down at seasons end and talk then.

Otherwise it looks like we are too desperate. If I was him, I wouldn't sign now.

My info on this is that Jesse's manager is doing his job, well aware big offers are going to come, wants jesse to put in another really good year and then squeeze out the best possible deal for his client, could sign for 5 years at a million right now and then find out 12 months later it might have been 8 years at 1.5 when the MFC were a bit more worried.

all indications seem to be that he'll stay with us, but he still has 2 years to run and an extension isn't a priority.

He's looking at potential forward partners from the draft, headlining the clubs re-branding, very much becoming the face of the club, you don't do all of those things if you aren't interested in hanging around.

The way I read Concentrating on footy to hold on contract talks is, Im going to practice my goal kick all preseason and kick 60 goals next season which will give me an extra $500,000 per year on my price tag.

Smart move.

I think even suggesting talking about a contract extension with 2 year left on his existing one This early in his career says we are desperate to keep him.

We have basically given him the right to demand a blank check at the end of next season.

Don't know if this was the smartest move by the club, just hope his manager doesn't play hard ball now and we pay way over for him.

Jesse will be a once in a generation player so I'm pretty sure we will give him what ever he wants to keep him at Melbourne.

We do need to own Melbourne City, how much would it cost the club to set up a coffee van in fed squad and give out free coffees and waters with the logo on it every Home game at the MCG?

We need something like that to make it our city!!

I'm stressed.......

That's a long time to be stressed jumbo.

If it's meant to be its meant to be.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
