Needed another big and effective ruck to compete with Mumford in the second half.

We simply couldn't win any clearances.

In the second quarter when their back-up ruckman/forward went down (Tomilson), they then played a lot better for the rest of the game (their improvement coincided with this in my mind), they lost a tall and replaced him with a runner. I don't think bringing in another ruckman will help unless he can really influence the contest in the ruck and around the ground. We know Jamar doesn't, but he is the best ruckman we have. Can we affard to bring in a second ruckman who also may have a sub par impact around the ground?

E.g. Mummy played the rest of the game and the team actually functioned a lot better, not having the second Slow ruckman/forward in the team/ out on the ground (and they only had 2 tall forwards Cameron and McCarthy).. we were playing with 4 (Hogan/Dawes/Frost/Watts).

Drop one for JkH is my change for Adelaide.

My three words for the game/season:

I'm still hopefully... Go Dees :)

I was one that called for Dawes to be included, thought is leadership and aggression would help, but i think we need the speed of JKH more thank Dawes' presence. I would also start Brayshaw and have Vince as the sub.

Like your good self mate I also thought Dawes would brig a positive dimension to the setup. its seemed entirely logical that would be the dividend....and then the game unfolded

The clearances were WON by the their MIDS not their RUCK. They sharked the lot. We stood and watched. You can win games without the winning ruck.

Ah who knows, if we didn't include them and the same thing happened then we would have been saying Dawes would have been the difference. A steaming pile of [censored] remains a steaming pile of [censored] from any angle.

I've seen something similar but I don't think I've seen such a total wilt with basically no resistance. Maybe us having beaten GC last week makes it a lot worse... That's probably why.

And there was so much to play for, we were an hour away from being 2-0 to start a season. And from where we have been, that would have been a great start to the season.

agree RB. Sure our midfield is woeful in roving to our losing ruckman and this has been the case for years. We clearly still have a problem with our midfield and outside run but Jamar alone is not the answer and he is a liability around the ground. Despite my misgivings about Spencer and Gawn we need to give one or other a try for several games. my preference is Gawn given his mobility up forward and around the ground. If that means dropping Dawes or Frost then so be it. All I know is that Jamar alone is not the answer.

My issue is that this has been done year after year, we put gawn or pencil in and they provide nothing, i would not drop Frost for either of them, he is the one giving Jamar the rest in the forward line, I would rather he have another few games first before putting on of them in.

I would agree with you if Frost can be an effective tap ruckman at centre bounce as well around the ground, better than either Gawn or Pencil.

I think he already is, he has already done just as much if not more than those 2 when they get their opportunity, yeah they may get more hit outs but that doesn't straight away make them better, and they all kick like each other too.

If a team goes into a game with their #1 ruckman and a Frost type, you do not want another dedicated ruckman to back up your #1, it just hurts you too much not having 1 extra player that gets the ball. I really do not think there is room in our best 22 for 2 dedicated ruckmen.

JETTA DUNN FROST

SALEM TMAC GARLAND

H VINEY KENT

HOWE HOGAN VINCE

JKH WATTS GARLETT

JAMAR JONES TYSON

ANGUS VB PEDO NEWTON

OUT -

DAWES - I've ridden Grimes and McKenzie(and yes it's been warranted) now it's time for Dawes, any chance of taking a mark this year....Hogan can look after himself. The whole big body/leadership/on field presence is wearing thin. Failing to impact on games.

CROSS - love Crossy, just wanted to mix things up and add some speed. You could argue for and against other players I know....

IN - JKH, PEDO

Dunn and Col can play on talls and smalls so I don't see that having Frost down there as an issue.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
