Which player positively suprised you against GC

First of all apologies to the players not mentioned.

Newton, his work rate off the ball was amazing, shepherding calling instructions, topped off by 2 very nice goals.

Watts, never have been a fan, but his work rate was second to none. He can still be lackadaisical with kicking from behind the mark or in general play. But I overlooked it this time.

Tommy McDonald, he certainly has done a lot of skills training over the summer. My heart isn't in my mouth every time he gets near the ball.

Garland, always a favourite of mine, but this time he had a simple game plan that was easy for him to execute.

Vanders for me. Had a great preseason and I was expecting him to drop off with the pace of regular season competition. Instead he held his own and did his job well. We have found a player in Vanders and his spot is going to be hard to win for those looking to crack into the side.

I would have to say Jeremy Howe. In the first instance because he had no match practice at all over the pre season after doing his hammy on Australia Day and secondly, because he seems to be taking his game to a higher level in all facets. If he keeps this up, the sky's the limit for him (and his next contract).

Haven't watched the replay yet but so maybe he was amazing and I missed it, he was certainly very good. I think I have higher expectations of him than others though because I really rated his work at half back last year. There's always a desire to see him play forward and take big hangers, but I thought last year he had several great games and displayed a lot in most games at half back and found some consistency. I really do hope that the contract negotiations are just about letting him get his value up by playing a super season now he's settled in position. I can't begrudge any player that right.

Tommy Mac for mine. Judging from Saturday, He seems to have taken his game to another level over the preseason. He looks like he's improved his contested marking out of sight. Adds another string to his bow.

I mused rematch that this was a crossroads match in a crossroads season for Garland. So far so good. Well done Col.

I was also impressed by each and every one of the new recruits to the club and the debutants. All did everything that was asked if them.
