GAME DAY, ROUND 1, 2015

I know what you're thinking.

Melbourne only wins the opening game of a season once in a blue moon, a rare occurrence involving 13 full moons in a one calendar year.

Well, the fact of the matter is that the last time a blue moon happened was in 2010 but we didn't win our first game of the season - we were flogged mercilessly by Hawthorn so let's forget this blue moon thing and concentrate on the other colour that represents our club.

And tonight fellow Demon fans, we're going to experience a red moon, a lunar eclipse which will start at around 8:00pm.

Which makes today, the perfect occasion to totally eclipse the Suns.

Not only that - it is written in the heavens that by the setting of the sun and the rising of the moon, we will be celebrating our first win for 2015 and for once in a red moon, it will be in the opening game of the season.

Heading along with 5 mates. None are melbourne supporters so there's a chance I can convert at least 1 or 2 if we put up a good show. A big positive today will be the price of beer dropping. A few years late though, I've spent enough time in the bar after we are out of games at quarter time! Got a good feeling about today though. I just have a feeling Nathan Jones is going to lead us to a win!

My shift got changed for work, usually work 7-11, now working 12-4.... Just happens to be during Melbourbes game... I guess I've waited months and months, couple more hours won't hurt.

Is this on free to air?

I could be wrong, but I thought beer was the same price. Wasn't it just some of the food items that dropped in price?

If you're sick you're sick....

There is a cheaper beer but it's a smaller cup. Gil just forgot to mention that bit

Who's the sub?

On my way in for breakfast on Swan st then off to the demonshop then to the vfl then then meet a couple of mates at the Royal for boobs & beer then to the G.

After months of excitement, a week of gastro means I will be tuning in via radio.

I hate to get excited for these things but in excited for this team. I want to watch all of those players. While a couple have question marks, these are over back finding ability not quality of disposal or attack on the game, for once.

We may be a touch short in attack but the is Hogan finally and I think footy in 2015 will be won by fast breaks, sling shots and thus small forward. And we've found 3!

Happy with our defence and happy with our pace across all the lines.

Excited about Lumumbas 200th!

A good showing, a competitive game is all that is needed to keep me satisfied. Signs of taking the game on and not giving up.

Can they deliver?

You're living the dream mate!

I'm way too fired up. Too early to head in to the G?

IT'S GAME DAY!!!!!!!

I think the two hours drive home will be horrible...

I don't think we will win. Don't think we will get flogged but a 3-4 goal loss is what I'm expecting.

i reckon we will be victorious today 26 pts GO DEES

Is this on free to air?

Nope. If you don't have Foxtel, you'll have to either get to the game in person, or spend the evening re-creating Hogan's match-winning after the siren goal with matchsticks.

Do they still make an AFL video game? Id love to recreate it on there

Is this on free to air?

It's a Foxtel game. And, they don't commence the telecast until just 10 minutes before the start of the game! Why couldn't they have a full half hour pre-game program? Instead, they choose to lead in with a replay of an old match! Go figure...!!!

Not sure. Footy has always proven difficult to translate into good video games.

I miss my game day rituals, normally finish at the royal though, my wife loves it more than me. I'm a lucky man

Yeah it has, every AFL video game has sucked hard

  • GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
