vandenBerg - a classic example of the massive positive difference in list management since Roos has been at the club.

Clearly Roos has a great network of smart footy people.

Can only hope it continues when Roos is gone.

Kelly O'Donnell says hi

Col is where he is now because of his work ethic, not his ability to play, vanderman has all the skills Col has, if you want to compare who he plays like, then he is close to Col but he has work ethic that Col lacked, which hopefully we will see a better player.

Col is where he is because he is not the total package and is not the talent you think he is. Anyway, now that he's retired I think you can look at his career and say what you see is what you get. Forget this mythical great untapped talent.

As for Aaron, he's not wasting any time after a late start to his career and good on him. I love what he's brought to the team to date, lets hope it's just a stepping stone to the future.

I must admit I wanted them to re-rookie Tappscott rather take the punt on Vandenberg.

Can someone please put the humble pie in the oven for me, 25 minutes at 180.

No. You can have it cold.

In what way was Kelly O'Donnell so significant?

Kelly is the 'pro scout'. His job is to watch the second tier leagues such as SANFL and NEAFL.

Would have played a big part in identifying and monitoring vandemon during 14 season.

Beat me to it, thanks

We have done well with rookies called Aaron.

2003 Aaron Davey, remember him.

Recruiting Manager Jason Taylor has been monitoring Vanders since his time at Collingwood

Taylor proving a handy addition to the club. Can't wait to see next draft's Smokey :)

Steady, Jordie Mc led the AFL tackling a couple of years ago, and Nev Jetta and Dawes are ferocious as well, I told Aaron today the next big tackle on Sunday I want the guy into the seats not just over the line, wore a NSW shirt in his honour today which he found hilarious

I like vandenBerg's attack on the ball and I like his tackling...but now I'm really worried about his sense of humour.

Why?

I like vandenBerg's attack on the ball and I like his tackling...but now I'm really worried about his sense of humour.

Considering that vandenBerg grew up in WA, yeah I don't see the humour.

mate, i'm not convinced you'd find humour anywhere unless you tripped on it

Elderly men acting as fanboys around AFL players isn't my idea of comedy. If I had someone I didn't know hanging around my workplace asking inane personal questions, I'd be worried. But I'm sure the AFL players are told to react in a polite way.

They do.

They are educated on this kind of stuff now days. Every club has that couple of over obsessed fan who put their heart and soul into the club. Its basically a respect and polite manner attitude in front of these supporters.

i understand he was born in wa, but grew up in tathra

11 Years in WA and started playing football there. Fair chance that if he was born and bred in Tathra that he would have taken to Rugby League. Just like Aker was born in Victoria and moved to Qld in his early teens.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
