Alot of the Howe + 6 for 3 + ?? has alot to do with what the recruiters feel is the talent gap between picks 3 & 6... could be losing how for nothing essentially, unless the steak knives are particularly sharp.

Parish or Curnow.

Parish is more or less what our midfield needs to top it off, Curnow can help Hogan up forward and has midfield potential (likely won't ever be as rounded a mid as Parish).

Aside from injury, high chance curnow could have been talked about as a top 3 pick anyway. Also can play mulitple roles, parish is a pure mid. Versatility is important. As for a 1st year forward coming in and having an impact with hogan, seems unlikely.

His kicking certainly seems like it would fit in well at Melbourne. I saw one pass into the 50 that fell well short and another that was over the head of the leading player. Also a couple of blind-turn-and-bomb-it-high moments. His hands seem pretty good though, and he has pace.

Definitely agree with you here, the talent in the draft varies, could essentially be losing nothing

If we do get pick 3, who do we take? Parish? Curnow? Francais?

Maybe we see if Adelaide get involved with the Saints pick 5 and if so then we go harder for pick 3.

Wayne Milera should be the guys for us.

He's got all the moves, tackles well enough and almost always disposes the ball to a team mates advantage.

It's possible his preferred destination is Gold Coast and he's just using Collingwood to get them to frantically up their price (they've already offered us a pretty sweet trade from what the journos claim -- clearly they see a list deficiency with Dixon leaving).

Chuck in Gary Ablett Jr as the steak knives and it seems like a good deal!

All kidding aside, any player on GC senior list would make a handy set of steak knives. Pick 3 would get us the best mid from the draft as the top two key position players look to be locked in to Carlton & Brisbane.

Pick 3 IMO will get us the best kid in the draft - Francis. He is just dominant, both Brisbane and Carlton are making a mistake if they overlook Francis, I only assume that our football department also believes that. Time will tell I guess, as of yet, we don't actually know whether there is any substance to the pick swap with GC.

Agreed, his highlights are of high standard.. Looks a player..

This is probably why we keep our cards close to our chest. The fact that Collingwood know we want one of their players (and he's already asked to be traded) works heavily against us getting the strongest currency for Howe now. Just look at the way Collingwood played the Beams trade last year as an example of how to play the system; they probably wanted Crisp all along but coerced Brisbane into "throwing him in" as a steak knives inclusion with 5 and 25. Lo and behold, the very next year he's performing like an A-grader.

Something stinks about the way their club operates; everyone knows they're ruthlessly underhanded. They're just another club who tanked all those years ago to secure their players (and the shiny priority pick) for their premiership tilt.

It wouldn't surprise me one iota if Collingwood had agreed to terms over a year ago and told him to underperform in 2015, so they could trade for him cheaply.

At least when they tanked they picked the correct players and so Hawthorn

Ashcroft confirmed that he has had discussions with the Demons on a swap of picks 3 and 6 as part of the Howe deal.

Says hes just waiting to see if Howe wants to join GC.

calm...... GC have only just got the pick they need to give us :)

Just go already Howe. He has had long enough to make a decision. I will be happy when he takes his elite running standards elsewhere

How long does it take to make up your mind? Seriously, this is a joke.

He isn't even a free agent! Melbourne should tell his manager, we are making a deal with GC. If he doesn't like it, Jeremy can enjoy years of failure at Carlton.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
