2nd rounder might be ambitious but I don't see a straight swap with Howie playing 100 games for a kid who's played 20. If Howe had a settled position, he'd be a gun. I'd still prefer him to stay.

Nah. Has "gun" like attributes- obviously a terrific mark and can have a beautiful field kick, but as package or looking at his game on a whole, he isn't a gun footballer and his attitude isn't there. Will gladly take the best offer because we need more then the occasional highlight, we need the people who want to put in regardless if they're playing in their favourite position

I don't think number of games played would have a bearing on any potential trade to be honest. For example I'm sure North would trade Atley (100 games) for Brayshaw (15-20)...

Quality > Quantity

Just looking at North's second rounder, it's 34 so maybe you would be on the money with a package deal, with us potentially throwing in a later round pick.

Good point. I just think we should demand an offer that we win out of, instead of the old "win for both teams" scenario. As long as it's nothing outrageous, we might actually succeed. Especially with North melbournes recruiting of the last few years.

Was Bill Nettlefold (1980) the last North player we received in a trade period? Can't think of too many others.. It is funny how different clubs deal more regularly with certain other clubs.

Welcome to modern trading. Everybody wants to win trades and nobody wants to lose out. Some clubs are worse than others, Essendon are disgusting to trade with...the interstate teams seem fairly reasonable.

We had a few of them around that time, Crosswell, Jarrett, Icke, but you forgot Pedersen.

The facts are that Garland has more shortfalls than Howe, but the club realise that Howe has more currency, and more importantly interest from other clubs. I know who I'd prefer to keep, but as you say "an appropriate trade will be to our advantage."

Hardly a fact.

What if there is a little bird at North who wants to move?

I don't want Boomer.

How about Howe and our second round pick for North's first round pick?

North downgrade from pick 15 to 25 and get Howe. We get pick 15, which could very well be bundled with pick 6 to get an A grade mid from elsewhere.

I think we have already agreed to trade our 2nd Rnd pick for Melksham

We could probably get a similar number pick for one of the players there's rumours about us trading if we really had to I guess

Brian Wilson as well

Thought he was Footscray but that was initially of course. We certainly got the best of him

No way, howe for a 10 pick upgrade? North would be licking their lips at that, if the rumours are true that we are likely to get pick 22 from gold coast, i back in Taylor and VIney to get a great player at 6, 22 and 25. I think if North were serious it would be, north's first round pick, for howe and our third rounder

I like the idea of trying to get 15 off North or 19 off GC but I don't think Howe alone will get it done

Willo was a top player and again, at the time we were seen as taking a big risk in giving him another chance.

As it turned out it was a huge win for the club - we were quite aggressive in our recruiting during that Barassi/Jordan era even though we were a poorly performed team. In a lot of ways they set things up for Northey, Wells and co.

It's very similar to what is happening now (albeit in a different sense) Roos (like Barassi) is able to see the talent in an under-performer from another club - hopefully we'll keep Roos on in a capacity where we can continue that trend of turning footballers around.

Pity Footscray aren't mentioned in the mix If they got him we could sing

"Howe much was that Doggie in the centre?

The one that just sits on his tail"

apologies to Patti Page

They're not facts, they're opinions. I assume any comments on here are opinions unless prefaced by the indefensible 'The facts are...'. In my opinion Garland is of greater value than Howe, particularly his physicality.

I would rather picks 6 and 15 than picks 6, 22 & 25. Especially in a shallow draft year.

Could Bastinac be involved in the discussions with North?

Hope not, theres only so many bugg, melksham, kennedy like recruits we can do in one trade period before it gets excessive

Not quite sure of shaun atleys current contract status or north's willingness to keep him but would he be worth a straight swap for howe?

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
