At least we are a balanced list even if we are a rubbish list. And we have the top picks coming in. There's probably a bit more depth and confidence in the midfield this year than last year especially if we get a ready to play mid with pick 2 or 3. Forwards look more dangerous than last year.

The backline has experience but lacks skills. The forward line lacks experience but has a bucket of upside.

No good enough to hurt anybody currently above us

In Fact others may go well away from us this year

We havent cleared the serial underperformers form the list Top 20 draft picks who have done nothing and are going nowhere

http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/st-kilda-plots-high-stakes-free-agency-bid-offloading-stars-to-get-draft-picks-and-free-salary-cap-space/story-fndv8ufg-1227088063944

It’s interesting to have a look at St Kilda’s current strategy and the number of kids they’re accruing and compare it with what our list looks like at the moment.

Pelchen’s strategy is the one Hawthorn followed in building their premiership list and this was documented in pretty good detail in Emma Quayle’s ‘The Draft’.

In hindsight, we can say that since we started the draft, we’ve virtually bombed on at least 3 national drafts, there’s argument that it could even be 5 or 6 in that period. This has set us back years. We can look at a slight redress toward the policy from around 2012, and again, how we develop the kids we’ve gotten in from that period is going to be absolutely crucial. The borderliners like Toumpas, Barry, Hunt & co need to come through to support the guys like Viney and Tyson that are tracking well.

We’re probably only one or two years ahead of where the Saints are in terms of list rebuild, we either need to nail 1 (or 2) more drafts to have the young core in place that will take us forward, or it’s more years of aimless mediocrity ahead.

Saints want 2-3 top 20 picks over a 4-5 period. This can be achieved by bottoming out to obtain two of those picks then trading a good player to get the third. They have achieved that this year and last but are running out of players to trade. They will go through the same motions as us, continual bottom 4 finishes. How many of these kids will hang around to bear the fruit. Look at the Hawks model of today.

"If you repeat a lie often enough people end up believing it as fact."

We all pick best 22s and players like Pedersen, Gawn, Jordie Mac. Seriously doubt they'd get a game anywhere - cos we have no choice - name them in best 22s deluding ourselves they're established AFL players.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
