Can't see him going back to the pies after this. Will be very interesting to see where he ends up.

I thought he said his dad wanted the brothers playing at the same club.

I've just read the post about Beams fathers illness severity.

its gotta be a 3 way deal; or its another player we want the pick for?

after reading further about his dad illness, he has to get to QLD.

Someone on the Trenners thread is stating Beams is close to trade to us.

Even if it happens how the hell would it work with his old man so ill. He should be traded or sit out until he is able to give 100%.

It brings back bad vibes of almost the same thing that happened with Mitch..

Makes me really, really nervous that we'd consider this so soon after the Clark disaster.

I think we all wish we'd never intercepted that trade with Freo. Nice to see Neeld's legacy come full circle as a complete and utter disaster in every single way.

i have zero interest in Beams coming to the MFC

Something about him just bugs me

Do elaborate? Is it him scoring 120+ supercoach every week....getting 32 touches and kicking 3 goals.....in black and white.....that bugs me also. Would feel much better if he did it in red and blue though!

I'd like to see Melbourne trade for Beams if for no other reason than to see the massive tanty Greg Swann would throw when pick 3 is included in the deal.

I don't think we're making a move for Beams. It's Danger or someone else that hasn't figured in discussions as yet. I reckon we won't put all our eggs in one basket and keep one of 2 or 3. That's all I can think of - we need to give a few more away.

Or is it the extra 5 - 10 possessions Jones and Tyson will each get because the opposition sends their best tagger to Beams?

If we make that play for Beams, we will have another Clark on our hands. We do not need to be a stepping stone for players, we need to be the destination. Beams will wait out the year at the pies then go to the Lions.

Stevo mentioned tonight on 7 dont discount melbourne going after beams and may involve there pick 3. No way should we do that. I just know he will want to go back home.

There's a rather delicious irony if the priori...Frawley compo pick secures us Beams and [censored] over Swann, especially after his little tanty the other week.

What exactly would be the Lions plan next year to trade him in? They'll have picks with worse currency and will still refuse to trade any players to Collingwood for him.

He won't make it through the PSD to them, and if he does, Collingwood are giving him up for nothing?

AFLPA are pushing to get the time limit lowered for free agency. He will be the poster boy for this cause, sick dad a club that doesn't play nice and Geelongs example of helping a player on compassionate grounds. That and Brisbane will make it happen and get the picks need to make the trade. His management will work the same angles as Ryder's and apply public pressure. Could you imagine the public views of the filth if Beam's father dies. The pies would become bigger social pariah's than the already are, and that would be quite a feat even for them.

Those who had Beams in their supercoach sides and watched him closely - will be happy to see this trade happen.

Footballers footballer. Goal kicking midfielder, gets his ball on the inside and out. I thought he was Collingwoods best this year.

Exceptional player and extremely unlikely pick 3 would become half the player Beams is.

Can't see why Beams is Clark 2.0. Different person, different brain, different personal circumstances.

I'm all for learning from the past, but the only thing to learn from that particular past is that Clark is a [censored]. The rest is irrelevant.

There's a lot to be said about the character of a guy who chooses money over family.

There's a lot to be said about the character of a guy who chooses money over family.

And that became abundantly clear over the last month.

None of us know the exact situation, I wouldn't be too quick to judge.

These are professional footballers, with a short career that could be ended every time they step onto the field. I don't begrudge them their right to maximise their income.

In any case, not sure what more Beams could have done to get to Brisbane?

But now the cat's out of the bag, hard to see him going back either - though Dustin Martin tried his hardest to leave Richmond and had to eventually back down. On that note, will be interesting to see who calls whose bluff re Griffin/dogs.

I posted this on the Trengove thread and personal circumstances are slightly different but

  • Clark wanted to return to Perth due to homesickness and a sick relative
  • Beams wants to return to Qld due to a sick father
  • Clark made an 11th hour change of heart due to more money being thrown at him
  • Beams father is still sick nothing has changed
  • AAMI Park and the Westpac Centre are the same distance form Qld
  • The Suns play in Qld but Paul Connors has told them Beams wants to play in Brisbane
  • Brisbane have more money in their salary cap and have offered a large pay increase to Beams
  • Gold Coast do not have as much salary cap room and the offer to Beams would not be as large
  • Beams father lives closer to the Gold Coast then he does to Brisbane
  • and Beams father is still sick, if my father was sick the Pies would trade me because they would already have been told I would sit the year out and spend it with my father as I would forever regret not spending that valuable time with him

and I don't care what money they pay me it can't by that valuable time

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
