2014 Player Review - # 37 Max Gawn

Had an interrupted pre-season and couldn't maintain sufficient form when he received the opportunity to break into the senior team as a regular ruckman despite some good form at Casey (where he won the best and fairest). Survived yet another knee scare when injured in the last game of the season.

I maintain that if he can avoid injury he will be our starting ruck man by the end of 2015 / start of 2016 season.

He's massive and mobile, seems to have skills and passion to make it. God knows we need him to as the big Russian as admirable as he was this year really is a dinosaur.

Max seems to be more the 'modern' ruck man - ridiculously tall and remarkably agile.

I have high hopes.

As much as Roos seems to love Jamar, Gawn has gone past him and should start next season as number 1 ruckman. If he can get a decent look at the pre season he could be one of our most important players next year. I really like the fact that he can push forward and make a genuine contest, as opposed to Jamar who contributes nothing outside the centre circle.

Gawn when fit is now our best ruckman. He is a problem for defenders up forward when resting, and is capable around the ground. If he hadn't have had so many injuries we might be talking about Gawn being one of the premier ruckman in the AFL.

Injured again but that is our lot but then I didn't see Max mentioned in the AFL' s response to our request for draft assistance. It is all rose coloured glasses for us apparently, every kid on our list is a champ! Bring on 2015 I say.

Earl, have you heard what Gawn is up to over the off season?

apparently is going to be mentored in Meditation in the Roos household, & IT suggested he take up music lessons, to help with his Rhythm & Fluency... & Tami will mentor him for balance...

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
