2014 Player Review - # 20 Colin Garland

Missed a huge slab of the pre-season after an operation to fix a bone spur in his ankle and made a late start after working his way through the VFL. Consequently was unable to produce his form of 2013 which saw him runner up in the club best and fairest.

Heres hoping Col gets back into hes previously sparkling form.

Agree. He was awful this year. I think he has enough credit in the bank for me to believe it an aberration and move on, so I'm looking forward to a Garland with renewed vigour next year.

pretty much exactly my own sentiments....i.e aberration.

Had a shocking year. Disposal was shoddy, inability to close down on an opponent, lacked intensity.

Still, valued member of the team and I live in fear of him (or N Jones) leaving at the end of 2015 as a free agent.

Was amazing in 2012-13 when we were at our worst. He stood up when very few didn't and was a rock in the back six. This year however, he was starting from way too far back due to his preseason injury and wasn't able to get close to his best. His confidence was shot pretty quickly as he couldn't keep pace with opponents.

A full preseason and he should be a renewed man - I would put him in the same basket as Trengove and count him as a new recruit next year.

You either have an astoundingly short memory, or you're a troll. On recent form I'm leaning towards the latter.

or he was taking the plss ??

We're the second bottom team who is similar to Fitzroy just before they disintegrated. You really think we have some great players? And our seconds are a train wreck.

Thanks for the insult by the way. Anyone who actually speaks the truth in here gets called a troll by the administrator.

Shocking year.

Should be a first class defender in the mould of Harry Taylor.

Lost his way 3yrs ago when he was a rabbit in the headlights. Had a good year last year. Had some injuries this year but still can't win his position on the ground.

He's a much better player than he showed this year. Surely we're not stupid enough to try and trade him whilst his value is at its lowest. Surely?

Is a bloke that needs footy under his belt, was nowhere near his best this year with an interrupted season.

His best is above average.

4/10 for the year - Looked lost and confused at times and offered little to no run and carry out of defence. Would be hoping for a huge pre season to get back to 2013 form.

A vital cog in defence when in form

Never got going this year. Hope for an uninterrupted pre-season & a return to form. With the departure of Rivers & Frawley we need Col more than ever to marshall the defensive troops

Dunno if you're a troll mate, but you are a [censored].

I believe Garland will be a free agent at the end of 2015.

Will it be Frawley all again next year?

Sign up now or trade is My view

I think we definitely have to be proactive here. Agree.

Going to be very interesting to see how something like the Garland situation plays out.

Be happy to trade ..or keep..but he'd want to pick up his act .

Nah, you got called a troll by a guy who thinks that's what you were being. Being an administrator has nothing to do with it.

so you

think garland would get a game in a proper team? You must be joking! Insulting other posters should not be your role on here.

As I jogged by AAMI stadium a few minutes ago I noticed this bearded man doing repeat sprints by himself. Would you call it pre-pre-season training?

It sounds like 2015 is going to be an interesting year for him. Good luck to him.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
