Darcy Moore leverage

Featured Replies

I think the suggestion that we get involved in the bidding over Darcy Moore to get an edge over Collingwood is repugnant.

Can't see where it is repugnant. What is repugnant is their behaviour with MC.

We wont need to do a thing. Enough other clubs with bones to pick with Collingwood.

If Darcy Moore is the best player available when we get our pick, we should pick him, if not, we shouldn't. I don't care about playing ducks and drakes with Collingwood, and possibly picking or nominating Moore to stuff them up. All we should worry about is picking the best kid who suits our needs or trading our pick to get players like Tyson. Stuffing other teams up comes back to bite you on the bum eventually. Just ask Collingwood, who were notoriously hard to deal with when trading and for years couldn't find clubs who would trade with them. We should get our own house in order and not worry about trying to hurt other teams.

They were talking about it on SEN tonight. Ox eluded to the fact that Carlton (Malthouse) might use their pick just to force Pies to use their first rounder out of spite.

Classic if it happened.

You don't bid unless you want the player, simple really

Moore and Heeney are highly rated, but not really spoken about because they are as good as off the open market. I would bid for both, and hoped i got them. Losing frawley and MC means we have a need for quality talls, and i suspect Moore may be the pick of the bigs for us. Him, plus one of Petracca and Brayshaw, would be a great first round.

Nothing to do with Collingwood. Cant give a stuff about them. If they think they can get better at 9 (ish), then happy to be the first team with a bid on the kid.

On Run DMC ( d for depressed...) , i would play hard ball. Herthier aint enough. If they want him, they have to pay for him.

... and if the boot was on the other foot?

It will be. Someone will bid for Billy.

A second round pick for Stretch is about right. Might be a little high to give such an early second round pick for him, but he wouldn't be there in the third. I have no problem with using it to get him.

A least if we picked him some old Collingwood supporter would be able to dust the cobwebs off their old 'Moore Filth' banner.

According to Quayle this morning, we could force Collingwood to use pick 8 on Moore by bidding with the Frawley pick on him.

Surely, this will come into play with Clark, O'Brien, Lumumba, and anything else.

Collingwood need to massage us a little bit I think.

pfft... Whats stopping them doing the same with young Billy? Also... The AFL wont let it happen, they will change the rules to accommodate eddie....

Given Darcy Moore's performance in TAC, why the hell wouldn't we bid pick 3? He'd be close to worth it IMO.

We'd have to bid pick 2, not that it makes a difference.

We'd have to bid pick 2, not that it makes a difference.

Oh yeah, cheers for that theo.

If we nominate pick 2 for Moore, Collingwood will call our bluff and we miss out on a better player.

not if we trade P-2+, to GCSuns for P-8 & P-17...& a player - (gorringe or other)

but eddie would call us on stretch

I think the suggestion that we get involved in the bidding over Darcy Moore to get an edge over Collingwood is repugnant. The likelihood is that someone with picks 5 to 7 is going to nominate him anyway because he's a genuine top 5 prospect but if we play that game, we deserve to have someone come under us and force us to use pick 21 or whatever on Billy Stretch.

Craig Cameron always said that the clubs that played funny b@@@ers just for the sake of it would always end up with egg on their face when they really wanted to do business at the trade table and I don't recommend we get involved in that sort of thing over the son of someone who was, after all a former player who won a Brownlow Medal at this club.

we have to decide IF we are going to be big boys in the game or hide every time. If we want to have a crack at Moore then we should. Fook E D MaGoo & the cold pies

... and if the boot was on the other foot?

get the first big Shot in W_S, give them one black eye & one white.

then we can lick our wounds after with pride.

We'd have to bid pick 2, not that it makes a difference.

trade P-2+ to GCSuns for picks 8 & 17+... then use P-8 to bid on Mo

Remember, F/S bidding is before the trade period, so you can't trade for P8 and use that to bid.

I don't think we need to bother with pick 2 because they'll call our bluff, but teams with picks 4-7 would be hard pressed not to take a punt.

Well his Dad did win a brownlow with us

It makes no difference to them though, they still have to use pick 8 or 9 to get him either way. Agree we won't bid though.

yeah. thanks TheoX

Can someone verify this or otherwise:

Only St Kilda can force us to use our 2nd round pick on Stretch (because they were below us on the ladder) and if they don't, we can get him with a third round pick (unless another club bids their first round pick).

Thanks

Any club can force us to use a 2nd rounder if they bid their 1st rounder (unlikely). But yes, if StKilda don't bid their second rounder, he's ours for a 3rd rounder as I understand it.

Any team can force us to use our second rounder if they bid a first round pick on him. Eg, Hawks could say they want to use pick 17 on him, which means we have to use our second rounder.

Basically, if any team values Stretch at pick <21 and choose to bid on him, we'll be forced to use our pick 22. Question is who values him that highly?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
