Quite the valid point as it happens..There were definitely those that wanted Wines and not Toumpas. Jimmy was more the flavour of that month and the sheep following phantoms all seems to fall into line. The nature of Wines did appeal to some though. The rest is history. Seems we've learnt a bit from it  !!

Gawd I'm over this thread ,,, But I can't  help myself! I was one very vigorous poster well and truly wanting Wines Over Toumpas. I don't care what 8 or 9 Recruiters said, I had seen enough of Wines to know he was the inside Grunt Warhorse and that we needed, so much more than an outside finisher in Toumpas

Not that my opinion matters a Whit with many around here but now here is the stark reality.

Double Blow for MFC

We didn't get Wines and Toumpas has left after 3 lamentable Seasons.

You can say what you like about who we picked up after Yadda Yadda but the reality is we got it so badly wrong and within that we really lost out on the Value that Wines would most certainly provided and doubly so The Value Toumpas never gave us!

Given our history of dreadful draft picks we really couldn't afford to get that one so wrong IMV

PF. I preferred OW. We know some at the club also did.

That wasn't the thrust of my post.

Acknowledged Beezlebub! but hopefully you didn't mind me taking your comment and putting a different spin on it.

And I do agree I feel we Have Learnt from our past Recruiting Blunders!

Cheers "Fence"

As put before, lesson learnt (it seems ) and we move forward..... Or rather upward :)

Meh, love lost is better than none at all even if it failed to be!

Christ, I can't wait for him to sign his 6 year extension with Port so we can all move on with our lives.

Picket, if you love Wines then set him free, if he comes back and plays for the Dees then he is yours, if he stays at Port then he never was......

Going through the 2016 AFL Prospectus. At the same age Ollie Wines is averaging more contested possessions than Fyfe, Judd, Selwood and Pendles at the the same age! What an amazing stat. Let it sink in. Yes I'm still shitty. What could have been. And to everyone that tells me "move on" - get stuffed.

I feel your pain ht

I still wish we took him when we had the chance. Every time I c him play it continually reminds me that we passed him over.

i just can't help myself and no i don't think I will ever get over it either

It was a massive error in judgement unfortunately.

Pick me that's what hurts .

Again, revisionism at its very best.

It is just another player that went later in the draft that turned out much better than our pick.

There was also a triple blow (to use your analogy) that landed Hogan, Viney and Kent in that same trading/drafting period.

4 years later, why look past the triple blow to continue complaining about the double blow?

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
