Assuming that's rubbish and we would want him back, if he decides he wants to stay in Victoria but play for someone other than us I'm not sure there could be any worse thing to happen. Could this club suffer a bigger kick in the guts?

We all want Mitch Clark back, don't worry about that.

He doesn't play, nothing changes.

He plays with us and gets his career back on track.

He attempts a comeback and breaks down.

He plays for someone else and we get a good player in return, would need to be a really good player from a Melbourne club desperate for a forward. Think doggies, cats, blues or pies...Stringer, Duncan, Gibbs or Sidebottom. Some will say he's not worth it but someone will take the plunge, he will make the difference if fit and that won't be our problem if he's not.

At worst nothing changes, at best we get a good player. Either Clark or someone else.

It's to easy to get worked up about something I'm pretty sure Roos and Jackson will have in their plans. Think the Roos speech the other night about "if you don't want to be here'...think Jackson asking for special assistance.

We are now up to page 13 on a thread about a player who retired for health reasons - and has said or done nothing to indicate that his illness is now well behind him - and who has said or done even less to indicate that he is planning a return to AFL football.

We should respect his decision to retire. This thread should retire as well.- and not reopen until and unless Mitch announces that he is making a comeback!

I cant help but get the feeling here that we as supporters and the MFC are being dudded again call me cynical but it will be interesting to see what is on this thread re Mitch Clark before the start of the next season

Just heard Duck talking about it on Triple M, said it should be mandatory that he returns to Melbourne if he returns. Either way, we want to make sure that we get something for him in the form of a trade. Get the feeling that we knew he wanted to walk but asked him to announce his return before list lodgement so we get a trade for him. Could be packaged with another player to get a good mid.

The other option, unfortunately, is that he walks out to another club as a delisted player and we get diddly squat.

Trade with Freo seems likely to me but Freo wont want to give up anything for him. They've already signed free agents in Sylvia and Pearce (subbed out yesterday) and traded a late pick for the failed Gumby experiment. Don't expect anything better than a 3rd round pick I'd say.

Of course the option is we don't trade, put him in the PSD and pick him (presuming St Kilda stay away). But clubs haven't gone down this route before yet alone with a guy coming back from retirement due to mental health issues.

Just what Melbourne supporters need. Another off season of disappointments and speculation.

Could well happen. Say he states his desire to return to Perth and with West Coast committed to Naitanui, Lycette (4 year deal), Kennedy and Darling do you think they'd even bother ruining Freo's PSD party?

Paul Roos stated when Clark retired we lost arguably our best player. No disrespect but I don't think there was any argument. If we don't want him something is not right.

I would be very disappointed if Clark chose to go elsewhere to re-start. If he wanted to be at MFC and we have chosen not to have him I think an explanation from the club will be required to members.

All those that think it will be awful to see him back in other colours at least consider that if so it will be via trade.

If he wants to live in Melbourne and isn't playing with our club I'll be quite [censored] off to be honest.

If he wants to live interstate (wa) and wants to play over there fine, but in Victoria he should play for us. I feel like we have been more than patient and understanding with him in terms of being on such big money and having lengthy times out injured, and I feel we supported and assisted him perfectly in terms of his battle with his mental demons. Not saying he "owes" us by a long shot, just saying that if he plays in Victoria it should be for the Victorian family that has loved and stood by him and supported him since the day he arrived.

I confirm everything that I have earlier said in this thread several months back. The prospect of 11 remains in play. PJ, PR and the club will say nothing and even go as far as playing games to keep people off the trail as the chance of success is stronger if the pressure on him remains low. I was recently told the move back to Perth was partly to ensure that he did not attract this attention and thus pressure. It was also to give him time away from everything to continue his recovery and to give him time to assess what he wanted.

Clark has not given up the dream of playing senior football for Melbourne again. He has been training on a Misson derived program in Perth. He must first prove a minimum level of mental and physical fitness, he must then prove the desire to return is strong enough. His pending return to Melbourne is a very good sign and he will now start to slowly ramp up training, but don't get carried away, Clark still has a long way to go.

Like Frawley that club just don't know whether he will or will not be on the list next year.

If he plays again it will only be for the Dees.
