Tom McDonald and Dom Barry re-sign

Featured Replies

Great news on Mcdonald, meh on Barry though he's basically shown zilch.

Dom is progressing steadily, as shown by the fact that at this time last year he was struggling to break into Casey seniors. Roosy obviously thinks he has significant upside and I'm very happy to back his judgement on this.

I would prefer the club only offer one year deals to players like Barry. List spots are limited and he needs to improve significantly to make it as an AFL player. Hopefully Roos proves correct on this one.

With some it might also be contract timing management

This only guarantees 4 years on the list for Barry though.

We have plenty of players to go before Barry. He can have a chance to prove himself.

Over to you chip.....

It will be a mistake if Barry shows nothing by the end of 2015 IMO. How many players show nothing in their first three years and go on to be good AFL players?

Fat Tony, look at Gary ablett Jr's first 3 years, took him a while to get going

To be fair he showed more than what Barry has at this point in their careers, although I also see what you're saying. Barry was always a project player.

2014 is his 2nd year.

Too early to tell. Hasn't played enough to know.

Ablett played 55 games in his first three seasons. Whilst he didn't get a lot of the ball early on, he showed great skills and always looked to be an AFL player.

Ablett's first 3 seasons - I think he was harshly judged because of his surname. He played ok football - but didnt play Ablett quality football.

if Paul Roos thought he was only worth a 1 year deal then thats what he would have got

Happy to back the current regime re Dom. They are more informed than any of us. Seems to have lots of natural ability but has much to learn about playing at the highest level. This takes time hence the 2 years.

Barry getting another contract surely doesn't agree with some Demonlanders who had him delisted. Maybe just maybe Roosey and the club know more than some Demonland posters.

Cant wait for some more Demonland delisting to sign on.

Give the kids some time for goods sake.

You will get yourself burned at the stake as a heretic if you are not careful

So instead of jumping into the thread to celebrate the re-signing of two players you make it about yourself? Disappointing but hardly surprising.

So you are basing your assessment on 2 games as a substitute?

On this occasion I think I will go with Roos and the Footy Dept if that's ok with you

Great news on Tommy Mc

Sorry sheriff, just couldn't resist it, following up with the celebration, 2 more off the spud list, great.

Nice of you to post about me though, let me think contradictory?

Please don't hijack another thread lads.

I have also seen Barry play in the preseason games and for Casey a few times. He has never shown very much when I have been watching but I hope he makes it. My issue is the need to sign a player that no other AFL club would be chasing on a two year contract.

Has there ever been an occasion you have disagreed with Neeld/Roos?

Well done to both boys.

They both deserve the extension and whilst at different stages of maturity, there's a common theme here which both players speak about during their interview. Their desire to improve.

Barry has come a long way in my view. Melbourne supporters haven't been used to young kids being held back and developed through the reaerves for a long time and Barry is one. Showed great energy and work rate against the dogs. He's learning defensive structures. It will all help.

Tommy Mac has come a very long way too and obviously is a big contributor for us. Great to hear him talk about his self belief. Once we get some half back flankers who can use the ball, we won't have to worry about Tommy kicking it so much. (Altnough it still needs some serious work).

Great news for the MFC.

As if you would criticize them - to their face - you keyboard warrior!!

.....sorry about that i had a sudden dose of the Satrys

Great news on T-Mac.

Re: Barry, welcome to a world where kids are given time to develop as long as they are showing the right attributes. The kid can run and will now know he has time to develop his frame and game accordingly.

Great news, Tmac now needs to get into Chips ear

Why bother.

IMO Frawley is goneski hence the delaying tactics.

I reckon Barry has some good traits, he's a project player but cracking a game this year is a good sign, I reckon at the end of the next two years he will be a regular in our best 22 and be playing a role very well, the two years thing could well be for the successor to sort of have the flexability to make changes to the list when he comes in.
