Post Match Discussion - Round 16

Despite Saty's trolling on matters like these, I really do appreciate his training reports and I don't believe he has much to gain by warping the truth around training and what players might be saying or doing. They usually align with the reports of other posters anyway.

i think satyr means well but i take his info with a grain of salt.

His delusional stance on how good our list is only strengthens my resolve to pay his observations the respect they deserve.

Does remind of what we saying about Neeld's approach when he first came in.

Yeah but Allison is not the head coach which is a big difference IMO.

Worst thread in ages.

Dunno. I thought jnrmac had some good contributions.

No it's entertainment when I am bored at work, some of the comments on players, makes me wonder if some posters when at the G know to face the green bit!

i suspect many of them rarely go to the footy. Remember all those on here who said Tom couch was the next MFC hero?

Byrnes is a two time premiership player, so he is AFL standard, he has the medals, do you?............not was....in your opinion he is past it, so it must be right, is that correct.......numerous posters comment that certain players will not take us forward as a club, how do they know, are these the same posters who declared Gysberts a champion in the making, if you go back I think you will find some are

Get a few wrong, that is laughable, Pedersen and Dunn spring to mind straightway, there is a small novel on Lynden Dunn on here and what a spud he was/is

Gee, let me think, does Demonland mean that much to me in my life that I will be shattered if I am blocked by a couple of keyboard heroes......er no...it's a footy forum where you can come for a bit of entertainment now and again.....not much to do in work today, so yippee away we go

I will now go away and do a Bart Simpson, and on the whiteboard in my workspace " our list is nothing but duds, Demonland told me so"

You completely missed the point again. Wow, you are pigheaded.

Damn it.

Saw the 'new posts' sign next to this thread. Thought maybe there had been some discussion about our match the other day.

I should know better.

we were well beaten by a much better side.

No we don't - that's the one thing we have excelled at this year. We have shaved masses off the "against" column because we haven't let the opposition team own the corridor and as Roos has pointed out - we have mostly made other times take shots from "difficult places."

Two thing need to improve.

- Our midfield has taken massive steps forward from last year - but we still need to be much better.

- our entries in the forward line need to improve.

I believe both will come - through drafting/trading and continued Roos guidance.

Ok, fair point. But there was a noticeable drop off in that last week, as well as the past couple of games

There is one difference between me and a lot of other posters, I keep my opinions on players to myself, I am not delusional WYL, it just saves me changing my stance on a player every five or six games, or the next defeat..........delusional, a common word used by posters to highlight another posters mindset because they do not agree with the standard Demonland opinion, which of course may or may not be correct

The old saying Saty, you're only as good as your last game.

It's interesting I think there is a difference between taking a stance on a player and being critical of something a player does, Jack Grimes is a perfect example, I rate him as a player/leader, love his courage, workrate, does the team things, reminds me a little of corey Enright

but he makes some horrible decisions at times and posters only see those, they don't look at perhaps at that contest he was the only player who worked hard enough to get the ball in the first place.

but I really don't think criticism is a bad thing, obviously when you are a bottom four side there are going to be some players that need to be moved on, the team is going to have flaws and so on

but you ARE delusional mate.

During Mark Neeld's time everything was fine.

If anyone questioned that or disagreed you jumped down their throat. With the current list the same applies.

I don't change my opinions on the running of this club every 6 weeks. I call it as i see it.

The list is so far off September action it is laughable. We have wasted so many draft picks with the previous regime.

They recruited the wrong type of player.

If you cannot see that then you are delusional

Pure and simple.

I have more in my life than to continually bleat on about it though, this topic was about post match discussion, as per the norm, after a defeat, the usual suspects turned it into player/recruiter/anything remotely associated with MFC bashing

You continually misquote me on previous eras, if you go back and re read, you will see I continually said that the Club was looking at sorting out the issues, until that time, constant bleating was achieving nothing apart from raising the bleaters blood pressure...........the issues were fixed

Last week was a poor team display, Roos, the media, Demonland posters all agree with this, as I have stated before, as a team we are exactly where I thought we would be at this stage of the season, is that being delusional?, nope realistic. I know there wil be changes, but last time I looked I wasn't member of the Footy Dept so I have no idea what they will be, I can surmise and put forward a list of who I think it will be, without adding the normal 'spud' hyperbole

As I have said before, I constantly find it amazing that the posters who continually whinge about everything about the Club, continue to support it.........I don't know why they bother if it brings such misery/anger/despair etc

I agree with what you are saying here, apart from the bolded.

This is true in some cases but not all, I believe. It brings up the perpetual debate of recruiting vs development and I think development is a serious factor, especially under Neeld.

This problem started long before Neeld. He was bought in as a quick fix that just compounded problems and made them worse.

the standard "cut & paste" reply from Satyr. When challenged you don't want to rock the boat at all.

If Neeld was still in charge your responses would be the same.

Why should i stop following my club?.

I want them to be much much better before i die.

Gee I find that "cut & paste" jibe a bit rich coming from you Mr "mention Cam Schwab in every post"

Rock what boat?.......I have no influence whatsover, and surprisingly neither do you, in what direction the Club takes....it doesn't matter what I type.

My responses are always the same, again, I don't like the bagging, it achieves nothing, except maybe making the keyboard hero who does it feel better about themselves

My responses are always the same

Well at least you have got that right.

Of course supporters members and financial backers have a say in how the club is run.

When it is run badly people don't turn up. Simple.

But you will always tow the line regardless which is why i do not hold your posts in high regard.

The players are your "mates". For me they are employees.

The club is always bigger, and this is why the sooner all these bad draft picks are culled from the list the better.

I mention Schwab because it was under his template they were recruited.

I think the bigger issue is Saty's lack of posts pretty much the second Neeld was sacked. Remember how he didn't turn up for 6 months after Neeld got sacked?

Saty is as ignorant as they come. I still remember last year he gave David Schwartz a pasting on here because he "pot shot Mark Neeld" on Open Mike when it was hardly ever a pot shot at all. And then going on to say beating his gambling addiction and using it to help other was nothing special and he should be concentrating on more important things like helping the club out.

Saty is all about him and himself only.

I think Saty is Mark Neeld lol

Could be. Mark Neeld thought he had good relationships with the players too.

No he put "so that Barry can actually start and tag Motlop and we can all decide whether he has any chance of ever being up to this level, which I seriously doubt", so I suggest you retract 'the liar' bit. God I hate school holidays

your kids getting on your nerves saty? lol

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
