Round 11 Rising Star

Anyone think Salem's in with a chance this round? Still four games to go, but not only is he in the top 2 for this round's overall stats sheet, his showreel on the MFC website is incredible. The shepherding for Toump before running on to goal himself, the smarts and strength in his kick to Bail, and the one step kick and goal in the 2nd. Wow!

I know plenty here consider the nom a curse for us, but would be great to see more recognition for our club's young players (and further highlight and embarass that idiotic "anonymous recruiter" Roosy wants sacked).

All that said, obviously it'll go to Paparone because the Lions probably won their last game for the year and the AFL are desperate to give them any advantage they can. Also he got one showy goal.

Just to clarify, Salem will be eligible for a nomination all year. The condition is playing 10 or few senior games prior to the season beginning.

Think he is a real chance this week. He had at least 7 or 8 score involvements.

Looking at it again, I'd say he's a shoe-in unless someone in tonight's Eagles/Kangas match turns on a blinder.

The Lions have already had two nominations this year, including 2 weeks ago. I don't think they'll get a third nom before they give us one somehow.

Joe Daniher also played a good game has he won one yet?

Played 10+ games, so don't think he's eligible

Yes he is.

"To be eligible to be nominated for the award, a player must be younger than 21 years of age on 1 January of the award year and have played 10 or fewer senior games before the beginning of the season"

Damn.....Zac Merrett it is.

Damn it, always when a Melbourne player is in with a chance, someone else goes good.

Another moronic decision, what's the point of rewarding players that pulverize an opposition composed entirely of witches hats? Says nothing about a player's actual talent.

Comparatively, JKH turned on a blinder against Adelaide in Adelaide, and Salem was superb in a close loss to the impenetrable ladder leaders. Those are the games where genuine talent shines through, when youth stand up and defy the odds against better teams.

Constantly nominating players that, surprise surprise, play well against shithouse opponents is like giving someone a Quill Award because their only competition in the category is Damien Barrett.

Stupid, pathetic, useless, irrelevant, cursed, pointless award anyway!

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
