Changes for Round 8

Featured Replies

I doubt Salem has 120 min of footy in him at this level, and believe Byrnes can and has been playing as a defensive forward to shut down opposition rebounding HBs, a role I suspect he can do better than Christian, at this stage.

Garland can play as a third tall forward/back as required... so Salem out and Colin in.

Who do you make sub though. I'd rather have Salem as sub more than anyone else who's on the fringe of the side. Therefore I'd have Garland replace someone else.

Good point, probably Terlich... but prefer a mid.

You know Shannon Byrnes is somehow still in the team, right?

Salem does more in 5 minutes than Byrnes does in a quarter.

Yeah but after that five minutes, he's out of gas.

I've got no problem with this. Just as young players must earn a call up to AFL, they should also earn a full game.

Genius.

Reading yesterdays VFL player reviews it seems like you could run a pen through the careers of Blease , Tappy , Barry and even Straus.

Blease and Strauss they've swapped positions. Sounds like a bit of a last ditch effort. But

- If Blease learns to defend down back he could make it

- If Strauss can find 20 touches (up from his current 7) forward then he'll have shown the appetite for the footy and contest needed and he could make it

I'd rather them change it up and see what happens than do nothing and expect improvement

Tappy needs a good month to get his match fitness back. It's too early to judge him yet for the year

Barry won't make it based on this form but might get another year and he was so immature when he came to the club in terms of training I can't help but think he's got heaps of improvement left in him it's just going to take a long time

I'm not wiping tappy yet unless he gets another long lay off from injury he hasn't had much of a chance and still very young. Strauss is interesting would like him to play 2 ot 3 senior games come closer to the end of the season see how he goes. Blease appears all but gone. Barry was only a project player nothing lost really maybe rookie him if roos sees enough.

The player I least want to run the ball from the backline is Terlich. Love everything about his game except his DE. Garland for Terlich (he plays tall and small anyway).

Gawn for Frawley to stretch them. I'm still on the fence with Fitzy.

Riley or Evans for Viney if required.

I presume DE is Disposal Efficiency? What is Terlichs' DE at the moment?

Dogs defence is their achilles heel, bring in Gawn for Byrnes and really stretch them.

Agree, if chip is out bring in Gawn, play Watts and Howe forward with Dawes, Gawn and Pederson and let Byrnes and JKH snatch anything that hits the ground.

Salem has been the sub for 2 weeks now. He needs a full game be it in the seniors or magoo's.

Personally I say throw him in the 1's. He has kicked a goal in both games, and scoring has been our biggest hurdle.

IN .. RILEY, GARLAND

OUT BYRNES AND ONE OF THE POSSIBLE INJURED

Garland for Georgiou, but without knowing Viney's fate and the state of Chip's toe, the rest is silence.

What's the position with naming Viney in the squad. Will they know the appeal outcome in time? If they put him in and he doesn't get off then we are down one I presume?

If they don't know the outcome by selection time (6:00ish) they will put him in and have till Friday morning to finalise the team

yes, I meant down 1 in the extended squad, including emergencies.

mmm - hopefully we won't need to find out.

Outs: Byrnes, Gerorgiou.... (Viney/Frawley)

Ins: Riley, Garland

If Frawley doesn't pull up then Fitzy or Gawn come in

If Viney doesn't pull up then Toumpas or McKenzie comes in.

Clisby deserves a crack but our backline has been good and if anyone gets dropped Garland should go in - so very unlucky (Terlich needs to play well otherwise Clisby comes in)

IN: Colin Garland
OUT: Alex Georgiou

The named side is slowly improving each week. I expect Chip to be a late withdrawal and Gawn to come in and play up forward.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
